GM has partnered with the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency (MVAA), USAA and Walt Disney Co. to help boost the hiring of veterans, and it will host Disney’s Veterans Institute at its world headquarters on June 5.
What does Disney have to do with veterans, you ask? For one, the company operates a “Heroes Work Here” initiative that looks to help hire, train and support veterans, as well as educate and inspire companies– in this case Michigan-based firms– to construct their own veteran-hiring initiatives.
MVAA also created the “Veteran-Friendly Employer Program” last year, which recognizes Michigan-based companies and organizations that make a commitment to attract and retain top-tier veteran talent.
“We are proud to serve those who have served our country, and we welcome this opportunity to partner with Disney to share, learn and encourage best practices in veteran recruitment and hiring with other companies and organizations across Michigan,” Barra said. “GM employs thousands of active and former military and their spouses.
The daylong seminar will feature Barra, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and a keynote address from ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff, as well as veteran hiring best practice workshops from Disney’s Veterans Institute.
