With the new Opel Adam Rocks sporting a standard canvas sunroof, the German brand worked overtime to make sure the minicar’s new turbocharged three-cylinder ECOTEC engine sounded up to par for consumers who enjoy motoring with the wind in their hair.
Available in two flavors (90 horsepower and 115 horsepower), Opel took the three-cylinder Adam Rocks to an acoustic lab where the car was subjected to a “full-load, rev-up” in third gear to make sure the engine’s noises always remained “within the pre-defined tolerance curve for cabin noise.”
With an acoustically-developed engine block, Opel claims the new three-cylinder engine’s “noise and vibration characteristics” better the characteristics of many four-cylinder engines; however, we’ll let our ears be the judge of that.
The new Opel Adam Rocks goes on sale in late September and will start at 15,990 euros, or around $21,500. Consumers hoping to hear the sounds of Opel’s three-cylinder ECOTEC engine will need to spend a little more cash, as the base 90-horsepower model will set customers back 18,490 euros; add an additional 300 euros to that price if you want the more powerful 115-horsepower engine.
