You may have already known that this spring will mark the official launch of GM’s new full-sized pickup trucks. But if you want specifics, we’ve got ’em. And according to close dealership sources, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck is scheduled to begin full-scale production on April 29, 2013, and first deliveries will begin in late May. Specifically, that date pertains only to large crew cab models.
As the 2014 Silverado launch picks up speed, the extended cab version will begin assembly on July 15, 2013. Afterwards, the regular cab will begin rolling off the line by August 12, 2013 — months after the initial production date of the crew cab. We assume that the 2014 GMC Sierra will follow the same schedule, seeing as its a twin to the Silverado. Additionally, the Heavy Duty models will carry over from the 2013 model year, as will the full-sized SUV models.
As of this writing, we are just a month and a half from the launch of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and we still have no idea what sort of horsepower or fuel economy numbers to expect. This is somewhat troubling, because if the new trucks were all that and a bag of chips under their boxy bodies with their new Vortec EcoTec3 engines, GM would probably brag about them a lot sooner. Though we will stay hopeful.
Generally following the market trend.

It will be interesting to see just where the pendulum will land between horsepower and fuel economy!
You know, the more I look at these the more I like them. The front fascia has this sexy freight-train thing, which is a good thing for a truck.
I think it is the best looking truck when put beside an F150, Ram, or Tundra.
I don't like the lift or the squared off wheel wells. Looks like a Dodge.

I sure hope the Ecotec3 doesn't make it's way in.
Wait, you don't want the brand new V8s? They are going to be the only gas engines offered in the new trucks, and they are a lot better than the current Vortec
New engines, yes. New name, no. Any GM truck guy will tell you they trust the Vortec name. There's brand equity there. The EcoTec3 name is already being met with serious static and they haven't even made it to market yet.
If anything, they should have gone with "all-new Vortec engines with EcoTec3 technology".
Oh I agree wholeheartedly, but the name doesn't have anything to do with them going in the new trucks nor that they are better than the current Vortec mills.
I had a 'Rado with the 4.3 and 4spd auto.. it had 300000km on it, with nothing more than oil changes via regular ol' dino oil. I drove the absolute piss out of it, just pure abuse, and it just wouldn't die. It slipped going up into 2nd and that was it. I used it for heavy towing regularly, in hot-hot summer temps, really made that 6pot work.
Vortec, you are right, have that exact brand equity, EcoTec3 means nothing, yet.
I get why they did it, these engines are more efficient and they want that to be known. But they could have called them Vortec DI (direct injection) or something similar. Hell even "Vortec: Active Eco" or some trick to make the marketers happy.
I own a 2010 Sierra Reg.cab 4x4 and I wish they offered options on Regular cab like they do on ext.cab....
GM had a new '14 Silverado as the "Pace Truck" for season opening Nascar Truck race in Daytona. I looked up the pictures to see what it looked like setting still and quite frankly I thought it looked fair at best? Parked next to the Chevy SS pace car it looked pretty boring. I'm sure these new trucks will have great capability and be very competitive on paper, but do they "Wow" anyone? I don't think so.
There's no reason why I can't just build one myself with an LS2, like I have now and be done with it. It will be a sad day when I see someone can't take a step up and make a performance truck.
Why can't you? Because of the new technology? Hennessy has all ready cranked up the LT1 to over 1000hp, what's stopping someone with one of these new engines from building on it. GM small block V8s won't be forgotten about.
Like people stated ahead I like them to keep the Vortec name,. Ford didn't keep Triton name but that doesn't mean you should follow, for one dependability wasn't as close to Vortec's. You should keep the name instead of changing it every.. People don't like to keep on remembering the name of an engine like android updates.. You blueberry muffin, apple pie, snicker doodle, oh which one did I have? I know it's not a game changer but it just kind of annoying especially in a truck it sounds like that name should have been used in an Impala. Besides that I'm pretty much ecstatic about the new trucks.. Show off good advertisement and just rub it in to the competition like Ford try to say about their trucks..
Any info on a standard cab?
August.
Why is the steering wheel not centered with seat , looks like they need a new tape measure. The very thin seat thickness looks like something out of a Tacoma, I wonder how much there saving on foam.
