Cadillac Teases Opulent Velocity Concept Vehicle: Video

Cadillac just dropped a brief teaser video showing off “Opulent Velocity”, a new concept vehicle with overt sporting intentions. The video previews the future of the luxury marque’s “zero emissions performance” in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Cadillac V-Series sub-brand. More information on the Opulent Velocity concept is expected later in the year.

“Opulent Velocity represents the duality of the Cadillac brand defined in the name itself, Opulent + Velocity,” the luxury marque states. “The concept’s mission is to demonstrate the evolution of Cadillac’s revered sense of opulence, while envisioning the future of a high velocity performance driving experience.”

The video shows quick cuts of a close-cropped vehicle traveling at high speeds across what appears to be a dry lake bed out in the desert. The vehicle is silver and black, and shows rounded curves and an illuminated front crest. The nose appears to have a pronounced lower splitter element, as well as vertical lighting signatures in the sides of the front fascia, and vertical elements for the taillights. The body style appears to be either a coupe or sedan.

As the concept vehicle approaches and passes the camera at high speed, we hear a sound that’s somewhere between a V8 at full song and a giant spring getting smashed with a sledge hammer. Given this new concept produces “zero emissions,” the sounds are likely fake and merely intended to make the car sound fast, but at this point, it’s not certain.

Check out the full teaser video below:

Caddy is now aiming to transition to an all-electric lineup around the 2030 timeframe, and it’s obviously bringing the V-Series sub-brand along for the ride. In fact, Caddy has confirmed that the first-ever all-electric V-Series model will be unveiled during the 2024 calendar year. That first V-Series EV could be the new Lyriq-V, a new high-performance variant of the battery-driven crossover that GM Authority has followed since 2021.

  • Let’s remember Cadillac still owes us 2 ev sedans … 1 being ct5 sized and the other being ct6 sized. Here’s to hoping this is a reveal of one if not both.

    • The one photo showing the rear fender / wheel-well makes it looks like a different body-style altogether.

This is likely a concept previewing the future mass-market EV sedans.

    • I would not be happy to spend $300k only to find out I didn't get the most powerful EV Cadillac has. IMHO, there should not be different trims of Celestiq.

        • Not every buyer is looking for power... some are looking for just a Lux statement to be driven around in and not drive.

      • I hope "it" is the type of hybrid that willgive hybrid-like fuel economy if you drive it like a choir boy, and viscera wrenching performance if you srove it lile you stole it

I wont buy any electric vehicle till it takes the same time to bring the EV to 100 pct charge in the same time it takes me to fill tje tank on my Covette.

      • Wrong, just relaying what I read on another forum from someone who apparently has an inside source. Take it with the biggest grain of salt though.

  • Could you imagine if they called it the Opulentiq-V? I could see them doing it since they are still on a bit of a lost path with Cadillac.

  • If Cadillac is serious about performance as a V Sedan, they have to make a hydrogen-powered vehicle to lower the weight so that the vehicle can handle a V car and endure long stints at the track like a V car, not a one-lap wonder like Tesla, Tycan, and Lucid.
Otherwise, they need at least two more generations of gasoline-powered V cars.

    • Hydrogen is just not practical at the consumer level. At least not where it needs to be to compete with ICE or EVs.

The industry seems to agree as Shell cancelled building out its Hydrogen fuel station network and is closing all stations in California - the nation’s
      largest auto market.

Not to mention, packaging for Hydrogen cars is pretty awful considering how bulky the tech is.

Look up photos of the back seat of the current-gen Toyota Mirai. It’s a full-size car but has less interior volume than the Corolla due to the giant drivetrain/ fuel cells.

  • It is wishful thinking that it sounds like a V8... it sounds like George Jetson approaching, and a Dodge Charger EV fake noise departing. Not optimistiq.

  • GM needn’t worry about the design. As far as I’m concerned, they still owe us the still-stunning Ciel or El Miraj. Slide the battery pack under each, and as long you remain true to 85% of concept design, GM, you will have a halo winner akin to the Dodge Viper.
