ADAC Opel Rallye Junior driver Marijan Griebel and co-driver Stefan Clemens drove to a class victory in the recent ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Opel said the rally, one of the biggest European rally events of the year, “offered everything that makes motorsport so fascinating,” including gripping racing action and rabid fans.
Griebel and Clemens captured their victory with ‘aplomb,’ according to Opel, easily and quickly piloting their Adam R2 through the 21-stage rally. Their Swedish teammates Emil Bergkvist and Joakim Sjöberg were a little less lucky, finishing fourth due to a number of blown tires. Bergkvist and Sjöberg are still the FIA ERC Junior champion for 2015, however, so they remained in high spirits throughout the weekend.
Over 225,000 rallying fans turned up to the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, with many gathering in the ‘Panzerplatte’ stage of the rally, an arena-like area that allows spectators to easily watch the rallying action. More than 40,000 people gathered within Panzerplatte this year, turning the rally stage into a ‘folk festival’, Opel says.
“The German round of the World Rallye Championship is a highlight in Opel Motorsport’s rallye season, said Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott. The backdrop was phenomenal and the atmosphere at the special stages absolutely unique. And we’re also very happy with our sporting results. Our Opel works drivers Marijan and Emil once again demonstrated the ADAM R2’s current leadership position in its class.”
Next on the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup schedule is the ADAC Baltic Rally in Gromitz, Germany.
