2014 Buick Regal Priced From $30,615, eAssist Model From $32,485, GS From $37,830

Buick has gone official with the pricing of the 2014 Regal, with a base MSRP of $30,615, including a $925 destination charge. That’s a slight increase over the $29,015 MSRP of the current model, but the refresh brings more standard content than before. We have:

  • next-generation IntelliLink connectivity with an eight-inch color touch display
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Rear vision camera
  • Leather-appointed seating surfaces
  • Heated front seats
  • The new LTG 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder (also in the Chevy Malibu Turbo and Cadillac ATS 2.0T) delivering increases standard power, refinement and fuel economy.

The LTG bumps up the Regal’s standard power to an SAE-rated 259 horsepower and delivers 18 percent more power over the outgoing Regal Turbo. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, it delivers EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, a 17 percent improvement in city fuel economy over the 2013 Regal Turbo, and a 1 mpg improvement in highway driving.

Meanwhile the 2.4L 4-cylinder eAssist powertrain which delivers 36 mpg remains unchanged, but is no longer a no-cost option. For the 2014 model year, the Regal eAssist will start at $32,485. And finally, an all-wheel-drive system is available for an extra $2,175. The Regal AWD also has an electronic, limited-slip differential and a HiPer Strut front suspension, just like the 2014 Regal GS, which begins at $37,830.

While the 2014 Regal GS loses some horsepower with the new engine, it doesn’t lose any of the 295 pound-feet of torque, and the Regal GS builds on its performance credentials from the rest of the lineup by adding high- intensity discharge head lamps; sport seats with leather seating surfaces; eight-inch full color reconfigurable driver information cluster and display; navigation; Bose premium audio; HiPer Strut front suspension; Computer Damping Control; Interactive Drive Control with Sport and GS modes; Brembo four-piston front brake calipers; and 19-inch aluminum wheels with all-season tires. Also available are 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with summer rated tires. Those looking for a 2014 Regal GS AWD, it will start at $40,195.

Buick also kept with the familiar Driver Confidence packages, which are bundled accordingly:

Driver Confidence I package includes Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Change Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Following Distance Indicator for $1,090.

The Driver Confidence II package includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Preparation. It is a $2,295 option that must be paired with Driver Convenience I.

Additional equipment, including rear park assist, passive entry and passive start, a heated steering wheel,120v outlet, remote start, high-intensity discharge lamps, and rear seat thorax airbags are standard equipment in various Regal equipment groups. • I had read somewhere that the Regal would be getting a "toned down" cloth interior like the La Crosse has in the base model. Obviously this isn't happening, at least yet anyway. I do like the styling changes. To me they make for a more "handsome" looking car. I just wish that La Crosse could have come out looking as much better too.

  • The sooner the Regal and Lacrosse are replaced and repositioned the better. Buick has the small car where it needs to be but the other two need to update and grow into the segment vacated by Cadillac as it moves up.

Buick right now is like 8 people living in a 3 bedroom house. It is a little cramped.

They are working on it but for now marketing needs to be creative to sell all these cars so close to each other.

  • Ok so I like this car, but bottom line the GS should have a small displacement direct injection turbo 3.0 - 3.2 liter V6 : 285 - 300hp 350 torque. V6 please, and no we dont need the 3.6 in every vehicle... Seriously... But yes V6 in the GS please... How is it Chrysler has multiple V6 variations with various displacments. What does GM have a 3.6 and 3.6 tt.

  • I think it is because the V6 will become more and more scarce in the next few years.

GM has pared down the models it comes in already and we will see more and more where it will be cut back. The 3.6 is the workhorse for now. We may see a smaller turbo V6 at some point but there is so many more projects yet ahead of another engine right now.

If GM keep cutting weight as they plan the Turbo 4 will do more than enough to take up the challenge. My Eco Turbo is in a 3200 Vehicle and will out perform most V6 cars out there as it is now.

Don't take this wrong as I would also love to see more V6 cars but the reality is the looming CAFE is making the Ecotec 4 the Small Block of the future as it already in in around 75%+ of all of GM's cars.

The other issue is if the GS is at $37K car now it would be around or over $40K with the V6 by the time you get a sun roof or other options. The GS is a sweet car but once you get into the$40K range you may as well spend a little more and get the ATS.

This is why I feel the need to replace the Regal and Lacrosse. Right now they need to move up in price but neither cars would do well at a higher price till they are totally new. GM knows that and will get to it as soon as they can but other projects first must be finished.

  • These should be the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick Regal engines. . .

(Regal and LS Trims) A 1.1L Twin Turbo I3 iVLC and VVT. 176HP and 220TQ. 27 mpg City / 38 mpg Hwy

    (Premium l and 1,2,3LT Trims) A 2.5L I4 iVLC and VVT eAssist, start/stop and regen. braking. 202HP and 191TQ. 29 mpg City / 43 mpg Hwy

    (Premium ll and 1LZ Trims) A 2.0L Turbo I4 iVLC and VVT. 259HP and 295TQ. 25 mpg City / 31 mpg Hwy

    (GS and 2LZ Trims) A 2.8L Turbo with 347HP and 359TQ (or a 3.2L Turbo High Feature V6 with 365HP and 381TQ) V6 VVT, SIDI and AFM. 20 mpg City / 27 mpg Hwy

(ECO Trim Chevrolet Malibu Only) A 2.0L Turbo Diesel I4 with Regen. Braking, 2-Mode Transmission and Plug-In Hybrid Technology. 151HP and 346TQ. 37 mpg City / 48 mpg Hwy in regular mode or 62 mpg City / 77 mpg Hwy for up to 60 miles in Plug-In mode.

  • I think they should replace the Lacrosse with a longer body for better trunk space. and put a new 3.0 twinturbo in it and about 2 or 3 years after they replace the Lacrosse in 2020 make a 2.0 twin turbo that has 330 HP and gets 40 mpg.

    • The 2.8L Turbo V6 was a great engine, people thought it was slow but I thought it was really fast! It was the fact that it was put into the land-whale Cadillac SRX which is super heavy! Heck any engine put in that car will be slow! The 2.8T in the Saab 9-3 was super fast! Maybe with some tweaking it would be more powerful and economical! I hope it will reach up to 347HP and 359TQ. It could be able to get up to 20 City / 27 Hwy if it had VVT, SIDI, and AFM! Maybe even IVLC! Maybe even boost the displacement up to 3.2L! So it would have 365HP and 381TQ!

    • It is not a case of should it is a case of they will have to have these to survive.

Thank God they have learned to make power from the smaller engines lets hope they can now get the weight down to where things will still be fun to drive.

It will not be long that a 300 HP 4 will be very common.

  • Can they make a 3.0 small block have 330 HP and have 40 MPG in a lighter weight car? maybe a 3.0 twinturbo in a large car.

  • the Lacrosse weighs 4000 pounds and only is 197 inches long and has the 3.6 v6 for that size of car... that heavy it weighs as much as the 1980-1984 Park avenue for crying out loud.

    • I noticed a similar situation in my "skinny" midsize '11 Malibu weighing as much(within a few pounds) as an '04 Le Sabre I had. It tends to rob power and mileage.
