Reuss: “New Corvette Will Offer An Entirely New Driving Experience — One That’s Refined And Redefined”

You may already know that GM President of North America Mark Reuss kicked off the Chevrolet press conference during last week’s L.A. International Auto Show. And while the main announcement — that we could drive the C7 Corvette virtually on Sony PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 5 — was widely publicized, it seems that no one picked up on Reuss’ remarks about the next-gen Corvette:

2012 is turning out to be another great year for Chevrolet… and 2013 promises to be even bigger. We’ll be launching 13 new models next year — including the all-new Silverado and Impala.

It all starts January 13 th when we introduce the next generation Corvette in Detroit.

All I can tell you right now is that the new Corvette will offer an entirely new driving experience – one that’s refined, and redefined.

There are just a handful of engineers authorized to drive the Corvette test vehicles on our proving grounds . And you can tell right away which ones they are – they’re the ones wearing permanent smiles.

Reuss then went on to introduce President of Polyphony Digital and professional racecar driver, Kazunori Yamauchi.

The GM Authority Take

“An entirely new driving experience — one that’s refined and redefined” sounds good to us. As does a permanent smile.

We can’t wait for the C7 Corvette’s unveiling on 1/13/13 at the Detroit Auto Show; we will be on site to bring you the latest from the show.

  • I sure hope that all of these pictures of the camouflaged cars are a trick and just existing models, because the lines sure look the same....boring! GM has an incredible opportunity here to really do something big, kind of like the BIG the Bill Mitchell did when he came out with the 63 stingray design, it was a radical awesome change and a gorgeous car, every design since then has been mediocre at best. My feelings are that GM will blow this opportunity and fall short like they usually do, I sure hope I'm wrong.

  • 13 new models and I can only name 7. That makes me excited. Code? Tru? Trailblazer? Captiva? Caprice? I can't even name enough possibilities.

  • Not sure how "entirely new" the driving experience will be? The C7 appears to use the same basic structure as the C6 (and C5, for that matter). It will be a lighter, refined version of the C6, but I believe it will be evolutionary, not revolutionary. The body styling, from what has been leaked so far, leaves me wanting a lot more. I'm sure the interior will be the biggest area of improvement (it has to be, based on the beating the Corvette takes from every magazine writer). So, my expectations are limited to a better interior, somewhat lighter weight, slightly more powerful base engine, and improved overall refinement.

  • It needs to be at least as good as the new viper all around, interior, handling, power, and especially looks, finally maybe a real world car, I HOPE. I'm not holding my breath.

  • The camouflaged c7 looks like a c6 watered down with borrowed Camaro tail lights. I'm sure the engine and interior will be much better but that's not enough.
