Some folks deal with their mid-life crisis in their own way. While a shiny new sports car seems like the most popular option, the owner of this go-fast Chevy truck had a different plan in mind, dropping a supercharged V8 under the hood to lay down some impressive performance numbers. Now, we’re getting an in-depth look at the build and how it drives on the street, thanks to the following feature video.
Once again, coming to us from AutotopiaLA, this 1973 Custom 10 Chevy truck originally cradled an inline six-cylinder engine. However, the truck’s new owner, Ryan, had a vision, transforming the farm truck into a high-performance machine with a modern drivetrain.
The big ticket item in this Square Body is the powerplant, with motivation now sourced from the supercharged 6.2L V8 LSA, plucked from the nose of a wrecked 2014 Chevy Camaro ZL1. The engine features an LS9 cam and custom headers, pushing the power output to the top-end range of 500 to 600 horsepower. The TR6060 six-speed manual transmission from the same Camaro adds to the visceral driving experience.
Beyond the fire-breathing powerplant, the truck’s frame has been customized to accept C7 Corvette suspension geometry. It utilizes GM-part-number control arms and an independent rear suspension system, significantly enhancing the truck’s handling and ride. Further modifications include a recessed firewall, custom drive shaft, and manual brakes.
Meanwhile, the exterior retains its original paint color, with minor touch-ups to preserve its vintage look. Young Blood racing wheels, measuring 19 by 12 inches, add a modern touch, wrapped in 315 tires at all four corners. Inside, the truck features NRG Prisma seats and an Autometer digital dash, blending contemporary tech with classic styling.
With a curb weight of around 3,500 pounds, the truck’s power-to-weight ratio contributes to impressive handling and acceleration, making it a real treat on the street. Hot Rod Truckin'. Way Cool.
I wouldn't trade my '74 6 cylinder Custom 10 for that if the bed were full of money.
Totally ruined.
