Hendrick Motorsports Debuts 40th Anniversary Chevy Camaro: Photos

Celebrating four decades of NASCAR participation, Hendrick Motorsports unveiled its 40^th Anniversary Edition Chevy Camaro late last week at the Daytona International Speedway, pulling the sheets on a special variant of the iconic Bow Tie muscle car that will be offered in very limited numbers.

A total of 40 vehicles in all will be given the 40^th Anniversary Edition treatment, with thirty-nine of the 2024 Chevy Camaro SS 1LE street cars to be sold and one to be given away in a special Ally online sweepstakes that ends September 20^th, 2024.

The Anniversary Edition Chevy Camaro features a vibrant Radiant Red Tintcoat (color code GNT) exterior paint color, along with gunmetal gray U.S. flag decals in the form of a center stripe, custom graphics, the use of “40” logos on seat headrests and other key locations, and “40 – 1984-2024” exterior badges, among other special aesthetic details.

The Radiant Red Tintcoat color was picked to mark Hendrick Motorsports’ Ruby Anniversary in NASCAR. The team got its first win in 1984 at the Martinsville Speedway during the season’s eighth race. This year, all four of its Chevy Camaro ZL1 race cars at the year’s eighth Martinsville race, scheduled for April 7^th, will display the same ruby red color.

Team founder Rick Hendrick will be the honorary Chevy pace car driver this year as well. At the unveiling of the Chevy Camaro SS 1LE anniversary edition street cars, Hendrick said the team’s success is “because of the commitment, the passion and the sacrifices made by so many.” He added that the past forty years have “been an incredible ride, and we’re just getting started.”

Additionally, the team will host a May 24^th and May 25^th event at its Concord, North Carolina campus entitled “Hendrick Homecoming.”  The Homecoming will be free and open to the public and will include the opportunity to get autographs from team personnel, as well as enjoying a festive atmosphere with live music, food trucks, and a variety of other attractions related to Hendrick Motorsports’ racing history.

A special Hendrick Motorsports 40^th anniversary display will also appear this year at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, though details are not yet available. Finally, a book containing forty stories of Hendrick achievements and bearing the title “Hendrick Motorsports: 40 Years” will be published in September by Motorbooks to celebrate the team’s 301 victories in points-paying races and 14 championships.

The story of Hendrick is tied in closely with that of the Chevy Camaro. However, as GM Authority has previously reported, the team got its start with another iconic Bow Tie car, the Chevy Corvette.

Hendrick Motorsports’ future plans are still uncertain with the Chevy Camaro now discontinued. We’ve speculated previously on what vehicle Chevy will pick as the Camaro’s successor for NASCAR. While it’s likely the Camaro will continue to appear on the track for some time, both the Chevy Malibu and a battery-electric crossover similar to the Chevy Blazer EV, to be run in the EV support series, both seem likely as candidates.
