Opel is preparing for the 2016 ADAC Opel Rallye Cup, the fourth ever season of the amateur rally competition. The automaker says sixteen teams from seven different countries, ten of which are new to the series, have registered for the opening round in St. Wendel, Germany, scheduled to take place on March 4th and 5th.
Four of the the nine German drivers competing in the ADAC Opel Rallye cup this season have made an appearance in the series in the past. Sebastian von Gartzen, Kevin Müller, Niklas Stötefalke and Tim Wacker are all familiar to the circuit, while Johannes Dambach Philipp Hetz, Nino Weiland and Thomas Knapp will all pilot one of the Opel Adam Cup cars for the first time. Other drivers being welcomed into the series include Pontus Ahman, Tom Kristensson, Jari Huttunen, Calvin Beattie, Nicola Sartor, Tim Novak and Stefan David.
Each year the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup champions have the chance to move up to the official ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team. Current Opel works drivers Emil Bergkvist and Marijan Griebel moved up through the ranks in 2013 and 2014 and dominated the competitive ERC Junior series in their Opel Adam R2, finishing first and third, respectively.
The 2016 ADAC Opel Rallye Cup will consist of eight rounds through seven different rallies. The highlight of the series, Opel says, will again be the Amateur series’ appearance at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, where they are able to run on the same course as the top-tier World Rally Championship.
