My 2020 XT5 does not receive and display text messages WITHOUT using CarPlay. My previous Cadillac (2015 XTS) did and my current 2016 Buick Cascada does. I have heard that GM eliminated that feature for safety reasons, but my dealer does not seem to have any knowledge of that. It’s a pain to have to plug in my phone each time I drive the car just to be able to get text messages. The BIG QUESTION: Has GM really eliminated the texting feature? If not, how can I get that feature on my 2020 XT5? Is there anyone that drives a 2020 XT5 that can receive text messages WITHOUT using CarPlay? My Dealer played with settings, etc. for 30 minutes or so but could not get it to work. They also didn’t think GM had eliminated the feature. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks!
I should have been clear that my phone is paired to the car via Bluetooth and all other phone functions work fine (receive/make calls, play music from the phone, etc.).
My 2024 Buick will receive text messages plugged or bluetooth
Thanks, Parts Man1. I appreciate your response. If it’s working for you, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be working on a 2020 XT5. I’ll go back to the dealer … or find another dealer that can help me.
Call Onstar
I have called OnStar a couple of times. They have not, so far, been any help. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try again. Maybe I can get someone that knows something about the issue.
