If a vehicle like a Silverado is purchased missing chips, will they be retrofitted later on when they become available? It seems that GM isn’t giving an adequate credit for new vehicles not having certain package options, and besides the money I just want some of the functions!
I’m sure that this topic has been discussed before–thank you for your time and input! -

I have a better question has anybody had any chips installed yet. I bought my 22 Trail Boss about 3 months ago with the chips being owed for heated seats and steering wheel. They told be at delivery time i would be notified when they are available? I think I got $50 credit for each one on the sticker

My dealership told me that it will be treated like a recall. When chips are available at the dealer, they will send out postcards.

I have a question. What chip is missing now. My trail boss has been done since June 4th and it’s still setting in Mexico. I was told by the dealer just this week it was because it’s missing a chip. It wasn’t the heated steering wheel, seats or the park assist. Asked what is was they didn’t know. Has anybody else having this same issue?

I’m beginning to wonder if we will ever get them. I’m waiting on front heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and parking sensors. GM will probably prioritize new vehicle production vs backfilling already purchased vehicles. The shortage is expected to go into 2024 from what I’m hearing.

I just bought and took home a 22 LT Trailboss and noticed the parking assist button wont turn on. Im assuming it might be a chip shortage issue, but the dealer never said anything about it.

You should see a $50 credit on your window sticker for the lack of this. Most trucks built in the past several months have been without this.

I just brought home a 22 LT Trailboss and its missing the front and rear park assist feature. I haven’t heard anything on a retro fit yet. Dealer didn’t even know it was missing.

I got my Silverado High Country in June w/o heated rear seats and w/o front and rear park assist.
Rear heat was retrofitted Sept. 20th.
Still waiting for park asist. -

It seems to be real hit or miss depending on the model. My refresh 22 LTZ was delivered with working front and rear seats, park assist but no steering wheel. My coworkers 22 refresh trail boss was delivered with everything working.

its pretty simple if your window sticker says ” includes later retrofit” next to the credit then you get a retrofit when eligible.

I signed a paper in April that said my heated seats and steering wheel would be retro fitted by summer 2022, now dealer is telling me no steering wheels will be done and NO Silverados have been Called in yet. I contacted GM and was told they are putting them in the new ones coming off the line but will do the already purchased ones sometime but don’t know when. Not to happy about the lies I’ve been told and a lousy $50!credit for the heated steering wheel that now I will never get. Total BS

Heated seat are being retro fitted at this time. Any dealer should be able to take care of this for you however one of the modules is on back order

Dew, I’m a parts manager at a GM dealer and honestly we’ve done a bunch.
If you’d like to give the last 8 of your VIN I’ll pull up the service bulletin number for your truck so you can get this resolved. Hate to see people go through this kind of stuff when people don’t do their job

Here’s my VIN # 1GCUYEED9NZ236099, if you could make that happen that would be awesome. I’m located in Shippensburg PA 17257 and the dealer keeps telling me they have done none . H&H Chevrolet of Shippensburg PA

Dew, sorry I was a little busy today but yes I check out you VIN number in GM’s Global connect which your dealer could have done the same thing but were to lazy to do their job. Its says right on your build sheet that you are suppose to be retrofitted for both heated seat and steering wheel. You can tell your service writer to go into global and look up service bulletin #N212354522 and have them order part number 13526069. I hope this fixes at least this problem for you…

I went to dealer today and had them bring up the bulletin and it’s still yellow and has no part number just an *. They said they didn’t believe you. They said if you called them and explained it to them, but they said you were circumventing the system . So I really don’t know who to believe. I am so done with GM at this point I don’t really care. 51 years of buying GM and this will be the last

Man, I’m so sorry you are going through this. If they took the time to read the bulletin it tells them to look up the part number in the parts book for your truck. They can also go into Global connect and see check your build sheet and see that it has this retrofit coming. The part number is 13526069 to retrofit the seat warmers in your truck. Nobody is circumventing the system at all. The guys at this dealer are a bunch of flakes that arent doing their job. If I was the owner I’d fire them. Which is a good point, Go to the owner or GM at the dealership.
Dont blame GM(not that they dont deserve it sometimes) but this falls right in the laps of the dealership not taking care of a customer

Finally after exactly 8 months and contacted the regional GM rep and the main GM officials bi weekly I am getting my heated seats retro fitted. No thanks to my local dealer. But I was also told the GM has decided that they will NOT be doing the retro fit for the heated steering wheels on the silverados even though my window sticker specifically says it would be done. I no longer have any confidence in GM as a company and a lousy $50 credit for a heated steering wheel that I’ll never have is a total ripoff

Heated steering wheel retrofit is suppose to start in Q1 of 2023. Tell your GM dealer to check the GM website called Global Connect and maybe he can learn how to do his job…

Guys
I have a 2022 Silverado LTZ that I purchase in May with missing chips waiting on retrofit. I just looked a my Dec GM diagnostics report which had a section for recalls. In that recall section it mentioned the chips retrofit for heated/ventilated seats and a recall #! This recall notice was dated Sept 22. In the recall section it tells owners to call local dealership and schedule our vehicles for the chips to allow activation the seat opts. Heated wheel/Park Assist are still on hold to availability. Dealership is ordering my chip and waiting to be notified for service/install. I have been just blowing these GM diagnostic emails because I know how my truck is running, If I hadn’t looked through the report and found that recall section I would still be waiting for the GM to notify me for retrofitting my truck.
Checkout your next Diagnostic report to see if also have any recall information concerning your vehicle.

I agree 100%, the dealer has nothing to gain by looking after your truck. If you don’t constantly check on it yourself it would probably never be taken care of. I was told by the dealer that I would get a letter for GM and that didn’t happen. I had to constantly go to the dealer and have them look it up on the global network under my vin and after contacting the GM regional rep and GM several times I’m finally getting my heated seats installed on 12/19. As far as the heated wheel there’s nothing being done yet on those. Regardless of what you read in here the steering wheels have not been started yet

Just came back from dealer and had my heated seat retro fit completed today. The manager called me in and showed me the printout for the heated steering wheel retro fit. Paper says they will begin the retro fit 1st qtr 2023. That doesn’t mean ours will be done then but someones will. He also said he wasn’t sure how it would work. He said the Cadillacs that were done turn on with the heated seats and not on a separate switch, but he wasn’t sure about how the silverados would be done.

Just a heads up for a GM change. GM is getting crushed with the amount of customers wanting their retrofits done so going forward your service dept will run a VSS in Global Connect for your VIN and if the retrofit doesnt show for your GM product they wont be able to do your retrofit even if it shows on your build sheet that you have one coming. Now, nothing to stay you cant push GM customer service to push this through for you but on the dealers end its not their call.
Sorry……

Thanks Parts Man1. I have followed you on some other threads so you may recognize my name. Just some info for anyone interested, I have been in contact with a class action attorney, they feel that we may have a case against GM in so far as they are installing chips in new vehicles and not fulfilling current obligations which may be against the law. GMs loophole is that they have given a credit for the missing chips, (Albeit a small one) but the attorneys feel it is so small that it does not account for the, and I hate to use the term, “pain and suffering”. This is an expensive and somewhat complicated process and will take a lot of time but as someone who has been a frustrated GM customer for over 45 years I am fed up.
P.S.
I took delivery last February, almost a full year, and am still waiting on the parking sensors and heated steering wheel. -
