ParticipantSo a little bit of back story. I went to a dealership back in January to order a 2017 2500. When I ordered it, all I received was a Configure a New Vehicle Summary sheet that included everything I wanted in the truck. Yesterday I called the dealership to find out the status of my vehicle since I did not have an order number and Chevy’s chat service wasn’t able to help me. The dealership told me they couldn’t check because only the GM had access to the system. Today they called me back and said there were multiple 2500’s in their system and asked me to send them a copy of my configuration summary so they could figure out which one was the right one for me. They then called me back and said that it was still awaiting allocation and gave me an order number. When I contacted Chevy and asked them when the order was placed they told me today. I called the dealership back to which they told me it had been in dealer allocation until today, a Saturday. It seemed too much of a coincidence and I cancelled my order and will be going to get my deposit back tomorrow.
My question is, when should I have received an order number? When I originally ordered the truck or does it take awhile to get? Also, does it seem right that it would take two months for the factory to receive the order, only for me to potentially have to wait another two months for the truck to get a production week assigned? Four to five months seems like a long time for a gas LTZ with a plus package and navigation.

ParticipantThe order should be submitted to GM the same day that the client and dealer agree to the deal. The order number is generated instantly upon order creation.

Keymaster@mtnbiker1185 Yup, @CraigInIndy is correct — the order number is generated immediately upon the order being placed.
As for the wait time: it is normal in some cases, which is especially true if you are getting a specific configuration. But what I think is taking place in your situation is slightly different. But knowing whether you ordered yours with the new 6.6L Duramax turbo diesel (L5P) would help.

ParticipantIt was ordered with the gas engine, not the diesel. While I understand having a special order can cause for longer delays, there really wasn’t anything special about the truck. I ordered an LTZ with navigation, plus and tow packages. The only reason I even ordered it is because the dealership couldn’t seem to find an LTZ that had navigation in it for some reason.
By the sounds, I wasn’t too far off in my thinking that the dealership forgot about my order and never submitted it to GM until I called to ask them about it?

KeymasterWell, that’s just strange.
The reason I was asking is that the delay you’re describing could potentially be related to the new Diesel engine… but if you got it with the Gasoline motor, there should not be a big delay whatsoever.
So, I would go with your notion that your dealer didn’t submit the order when they were supposed to. If you have the order number now, we could track down when the order was entered for you.

MemberI ordered a Canyon Denali, dealer sent it in immediately, next day he provided me with an order number. The truck has been built but is still sitting waiting for transportation, but no one can give an ETA.
Buy one in front of you rather than ordering and. Your ulcers will appreciate it.
