What’s the best winter car under $20,000?

It’s getting to be that time of the year where us up here in the northern states have to garage our muscle cars and save up for heating bills. Yes, winter is coming and with it comes imminent snowfall. Who out there has a designated winter vehicle? Which in your opinion is the best winter car out there? How about for under $20,000?

I’m putting a vote in for a first-generation Saturn Vue AWD. Great utility, and hooning in a snow-covered empty parking lot was easy to do.

Planning on driving my 2012 Camaro through the winter here in Alaska. Per tradition, got it some Pirelli Sottozeros for the snow. It drives just fine – no sand bags or any other hacks to make it “more safe” in snow. Its even fun when the rear slides out a bit. I like correcting it when that happens. I think people make too big of a deal about rear wheel drive cars in the snow.

But if it was up to me and I had $20k to spend… a Vue wouldn’t be a bad choice. I also like the first gen Edge and the second gen Escape (during the earlier years of the second gen, I think those can be had for high teens). As much as I hate its blandness I’d also say the Honda CR-V. They’re cheap but as reliable as beer.

Sounds like your talking used, heck you could get a previous gen Caddy SRX for under 20 now, to me this is a heck of a deal.

Actually a Trailblazer would be my choice, unless concerned about gas mileage, then maybe a Vue or older Equinox/Torrent.

@yabadabadoo I’m just speaking any car you can get under $20K, new or used. I would even see if I could get my hands on a used Subaru WRX for under that price.

I’m with @wbodyfan on this one. I’d get my hands on a muscle car (Camaro, G8, etc.), throw some good snow tires on it, and have fun. It’s all about knowing how to correct oversteer… and make snow your b&%ch. [..]

Used Trailblazer or GMC Envoy is my advice.

The Subaru I had (a 90 legacy was Expensive to maintain with CV boots going bad every 6 to 9 months thus axels going bad) in other words I don’t do Subarus, and I don’t recommend them to anyone.
