Well I am officially in love with the new Chevy sedan. And the SS name works (was one of chevy’s first muscle car) so I want to hear what you have to say?

It ain’t out just yet — so I’ll reserve full judgement until a few months from today… but I welcome anything meant for performance. 😀

I suppose the V8 RWD “purists need to have a bone thrown to them every now and then.

The Impala SS needs to be built with an attitude! V8 power with rear wheel drive and an aggressive stance! It will have to go up against a Dodge Charger (another 4 door muscle car) and kick it’s ashtray around the room!

And I’m talking about the Dodge Charger SRT!

ya agree with you there Rick except it won’t be called the impalla ss. it might just be “chevrolet ss”
      as explained here

Could it be the “bean counters” are once again taking over GM. Commodore sounds like a limo! Calling a car SS sounds very generic. Maybe some bean counter doesn’t like the Impalla logo with an SS next to it. I guess it’s all just talk right now. I hope someone at GM has some common sense.

well actually rick the impallas is fwd so i doubt they would call a rwd car an impalla now.

I don’t think the Impala or the SS will be out until next year. Whats with that? From what I’ve seen of the photos it looks like a new design, partly copied from other cars, for a rental car and a Aussie police car. The design is so bland, not a design that jumps out at you. More copy than inovative new design!

@Rick What’s with the Impala and SS debuting next year? Oh I don’t know, maybe the fact that the 9th gen Impala is the best-selling full-sized sedan in the industry… or that it’s a major cash cow (given that the tooling and whatever design, development, or engineering investment in the car has long paid off). Let’s remember — GM is a business.

In regards to styling of either vehicle (which we don’t really know much about the SS right now, as it is) — I think you’re way out there on that one. The new Impala is one of the best-looking vehicles, period. Sure, it’s similar to other cars in that it has four wheels, a hood, roof, and trunk… also, a steering wheel. But to call it “bland”… is more than a stretch. Or are you referring to the Caprice?

@alex Check out the comments being made, Motor Trend and GM Insider News…the Impala has Acura headlight…Audi/Hyundai tail lights and overall dull appearance of a VW Passat. I may be way out there on this one but the design of the Impala is far from a new revolutionary design. What I’ve seen of the so called SS that design follows in right behind the Impalas. Yes I know, we all wanted GM to come up with a design that had the GM Signature, something unique to GM. I think they missed the mark!

@Rick Not to resurrect an old thread, but I respectfully disagree. Sure, all of the cars you mentioned have headlights, grilles, hoods, and other common elements present on most other cars. But the way they’re executed are completely different. I doubt that Chevy designers said, “hey guys, let’s copy the design of the VW Passat, or the Audi A8, etc.”

That’s not how automotive design works. In fact, the Impala’s styling was probably finalized and locked years before anyone at GM saw the new Passat or the other models you mention. This is a common point that’s often misunderstood among fans and enthusiasts.

Ultimately, styling is subjective and you are more than entitled to your opinion. But to me, the new Impala is spot on.

alex, i agree with you 100%, at my 65yrs i have seen a lot deferent styles and this is one of the best looking Impalas. Now as for the SS i’ll have to wait till it is out, before i pass judge’ment.

i like it simple yet elegant (talking of the ss sedan here) with a bit of sportiness. now i know that this isn’t the official photo or design so you’re right i have to wait till it comes out to say if i like it for sure or not. but i’m pretty sure i’ll like it whatever it is.

      @chevtothemax Thanks for sharing!

Only problem with that rendering is that it’s based on the larger Caprice, rather than on the Commodore. But I’ll bet the front end looks exactly like that, just a bit smaller.

I love the concept, but why name it SS? It should have a name with SS attached to the end.

it could , should, and still might but the name as just SS has grown on me a little however i wouldn’t object to the name chevelle either. or come up with something new like predator or intimidator or something like that 😛

Cruze performance sedan? .. How about a Cruze that can get out of it’s own way sedan. I don’t want a large or mid large sedan.

I”D put my 2012 Cadillac cts-v sedan against the ss. Above 170 mph it sounds more like a F-16 fighter jet 🙂
