Is anyone able to check Vinview if I provide a VIN #? Chevy says my order # is completed and to ask the dealer about transport, but my dealer is reluctant to tell me where it is other than to say it’s “in transport”. I think they believe I’ll be upset if they tell me it’s sitting in a lot in Mexico. If it is that’s fine, I get it, and people are waiting on transport all over the place and I’m not special. I also know Vinview isn’t always accurate, but I’d like SOME point of reference and to know where the system thinks the car is.

Once the vehicle has moved to the “awaiting transport” process in Mexico, I don’t think GM has any idea exactly where the vehicle is until it hits the US or Canada. I know some vehicles built in the Silao, MX plant are shipped by rail and some are shipped via seagoing vessels depending upon their North American destinations. The vehicles can sit in holding lots for days and/or weeks waiting to be loaded onto the transports. My GMC Sierra Denali was built May 20th and still shows “awaiting transport” but I’m pretty sure it has moved from Silao to Lazaro Cardenos, Mexico, a west coast port city. I live outside of Portland, Oregon and I’m expecting my vehicle to arrive by ship but I still haven’t gotten an ETA.
I got on the GM website and when the chat window came up, I requested to speak to an “advisor” and got a live person. They used my order number and VIN to get me signed up for email updates on the progress of my vehicle. The updates are not always accurate but they are better than nothing. The email updates do sound like they are accurate when immediate delivery to the dealership is happening. Sometimes they arrive just before the dealership is aware of the delivery. Sorry I can’t help you any more than that. All of us buyers have been going though the same frustrations that you’re dealing with. Good luck.

Thanks Blue. Your reply was actually very helpful. I finally got a VIN check and it came up with the car currently in Lordstown, OH where it was checked in 4 days ago, with an estimated delivery date of June 30. Lordstown is just about 4 hours from my dealer in PA, so yay for me. Thanks again for the suggestion that got me over the hump.

How can I track where my new Tahoe is? I chat with a specialist online and they tell me its shipped and to check with the dealer. I call my dealer and they tell me they can’t even see it anywhere. This is crazy. Can anyone help?
