Hi friends, after browsing the chevy posts, i have noticed that there are no discussions and information on the all new smallblock V8 engines. Where are all the questions and an answers ?

@oldchevyman48 Right on. Unfortunately, this has been a tightly-veiled secret and we only know bits and pieces about the new small block family. For instance, it will be direct injected and cylinder friction will be reduced significantly. And in certain applications, it will be mated to an eight-speed auto transmission.

I’m expecting, of course, better fuel economy and more power out of the entire range. B-)

Alex I always want to ask you this but what do you think about the 2013 F150?

GM should produce a TT 5.3 with 500HP and over 550 lb. ft of torque and bolt it in three quarter and one ton trucks.

Aside from what little everyone else knows, I suspect that they’re gonna switch to splayed/canted valves. The reasons I say this are two-fold: one, the video posted by Corvette Racing last year showing how the race engine is built showed CG heads that have the valves arranged as such (plus you can clearly see the valves when they show a finished engines sans valve covers). Two, it would be the only way to package the injectors without altering the design too much (they wouldn’t be able to simply drill holes in the existing head designs, as that would put the injectors way too close to the pushrods; if you’ve ever read anything about DI, you know that the injectors are a fair bit bulkier than standard port injectors thanks to the higher fuel pressures present in a DI system). I;ve also heard a couple whispers about GM possibly using a variation on the ‘Cam-in-Cam’ dual VVT technology that was developed for the 08-10 Viper for the Gen V small block.

Thanks carguy for the information, I hope to see a three valve per cylinder semi hemi. Can’t wait till the new S/B is out.

I don’t think we’re gonna see anything like that.
