I have the above vehicle with the 5.3L engine. If I want to leave my truck running in Park, it shuts off automatically after about 20 minutes. The dealer says I have to pay about $300 for a software change to defeat this timeout. This seems insane to me. Does anyone else know of a different way? I tried the method of holding in the ignition button for an extended period but that didn’t work.

My brand new Acadia does the same thing. Was going to ask how to stop it from turning off by itself.

Thanks Parts Man but the extended park is different than the auto shut down. Auto shut down works when the transmission is in drive. I want my truck to stay at idle while in park.

Sorry, I thought it said it worked for both.
Curious, why do you want your truck to idle so long?
Try this..

There is also a TSB to remove this function. TSB#21-NA-228. Your dealer can do this and I’m sure there will be a charge
