I’m a (soon to be ex) Mopar guy who doesn’t trust Fiat to continue the quality of Dodge and Chrysler products. I’ll be in the market for a new truck, but I am reading about rust issues with Chevy and GMC trucks, as well as cheaply made parts included on the trucks. It’s the frame-rust issue that concerns me the most. I want to hear from GM fans who may have information or experiences that are contrary to the claims against GM’s trucks. Thank you!
Well the brand was been notorious with their fleet as rust bucket. There are ways to avoid this, but it will be costly and inefficient.
Thanks. I’ll look at Ford. I won’t have rust issues with their bodies and their frames are not wax-coated, but e-coated.
Generally all trucks from GM and Ford will go 12 years with no major rust issues. They all can and will exhibit some surface rust issues but no rust through.
The GM frames can get some surface coat rust issues is the coating is damaged but they will not rust through and if they do generally the truck is so old and used up it is not on the road anyways.
The only real rust though frame issue was Toyota a couple years back and most of them are now gone.
I have never had an issue on rust on a GM truck in any less than 12 years and I live in the snow belt.
Ford also has had more issues on their engines but it is not a major problem either.
Thank you. Your reply was helpful.
Yes, I’m leery of Ford’s Ecoboost engines. I know a guy who is going to have to replace his entire engine a 2.7 Ecoboost. It’s under warranty and Ford is paying for it. That’s another issue with Mopar–too many unresponsive dealerships who won’t go to bat for their customers, claiming that FiatCA won’t approve the repair.
