I have a 37k miles chevy lumina base 3.1l engine.
Problem: I start my car, turn on the A/C and drive, after my car is at running temperature, when I turn my steering wheel my a/c will spew white steam from the vents and I will hear a weird hiss/crunchy noise (like leaves rustling in the vents). I looked into it and checked my power steering fluid (finding that might be making the sound) it turned up almost completely empty.
Auto shop: I then brought it into the shop where they check my lines for a leak, and they find one. Im planning on replacing it this coming monday, but I asked a mechanic friend for advice and they said it hasn’t got to do with there being a leak in the power steering line.
Question: I only hear the noise when my A/C is on.
What could be the issue? I’m kind of puzzled. Could it be the serpentine belt? Or the compressor? My A/C runs cold and strong and I think the steam from the vents is caused by heat or humidity from outside or the hot engine.
I appreciate any incites on my situation.
