Just got a 2013 Equinox. The Equinox paired both of our cell phones but it will not load the contact list from either phone. They are not smartphones–just bluetooth enabled cell phone but that should not matter. Spent an hour with online chat at Chevy and they could not help. Moved the contacts from the phone to the SIM and from the SIM to the phone to no avail. The car will not download contacts. We did not have this problem with the 2010 Milan we just traded in! Very frustrating. Any advice?

Have you been to the dealership to see if they can pinpoint the concern for you? Please let us know.

Not yet. I read online somewhere that only SMARTPHONE contact lists can be uploaded. Can you verify if this is true? Our Samsung phones are not on the list supposedly supported by the 2013 Equinox. But this would not make any sense at all–not everyone has or wants a smartphone.

OK, so the final answer is…it CANNOT be done. It will only recognize the phone contacts from certain smartphones. I have to say, GM really lags behind Ford in sync technology and backup cameras.

I picked up my 2013 Equinox lt2 with My Link with nav without the voice commands and to my surprise I could not get my phone contacts listed because the My Link will only work with smart phones. My plain little old Samsung A777 worked in my 2011 Equinox. And since I recently got a new phone I have to wait till July 2014 to upgrade. So how about GM being a sport and downloading software for all other phones.

Interesting to know, @slf817 and @littlestar

I trust you’ve enabled the setting to sync phone contacts?

Oh yes. The dealer could not figure it out. I finally called the number given to me in an email from Chevy and was told directly by a GM person that mylink ONLY works with CERTAIN smartphones. I do not plan on getting a smartphone. I have not tried my mp3 player yet, but now I am wondering if THAT will work since it’s 3 years old. Very poor on GM part for this. Am missing my Milan right now.

alex, I was at the ATT store this afternoon and my guru there found me a non smart phone –LG a340 that is fully compatible with the my link. he found a site i could not find that had all the phone brands and which models of each that had PBA and synced the contacts. It will run $100 but I don’t have to pay extra for those 20 buck a month olans.
And BTW where is this sync phone contacts –i was all over the config and did not see that. Beginning to feel better all ready.

On Friday the 5th, I picked up the new LG a340 and my ATT guru set it up with the Equinox and in less than 2 minutes my address book was in the My Link phone directory, paired and set to go. Using the button on the wheel I called home and the call went thru using my cell. This phone cost me $120 and it is from what I’ve read on line, an excellent phone.

Alex, now that I have set up everything in the My Link and tested the features, please tell me why when using the navigation the radio is not shut down when the system tells you the directions. The radio is lowered but not off, at least this is what my memory is telling me. When you use the phone the radio goes off and then back on when the call ends. I had a 2005 Buick Rainier with Nav and that closed any cd or radio until the directions were finished. O f course since I’m 72 I may have to sit in the driveway tomorrow to make sure i did hear the radio in the background–LOL.
