The bluetooth on my Terrain works OK for phone calls as long as I’m answering them. If I try to make a call using voice commands through my HTC Rezound, the on board microphone won’t pick up my voice, only the microphone on the handheld device. Also, I cannot stream audio for applications like navigation and Tune In Radio form my handheld via bluetooth through the car radio. Is there a software upgrade for the radio that can make this happen? Thanks for your help.

Hey John — sorry for my late reply. I hope the following will help, but I should start with asking whether the Terrain has the IntelliLink system.

Outside of that, I think you’re experiencing the following when attempting to make a call: you’re using what’s called “Bluetooth passthrough” — which bypasses the car’s microphones and allows you direct access to the phone’s mic.

As far as streaming apps via Bluetooth Audio, do you have the vehicle in Bluetooth audio mode? I’ve had no problems doing this in all kinds of 2011 and 2012 GM vehicles with iOS and Android devices.

well just check on your screen to see if you have pandora, stitcher radio on your screen then that will tell if you have intellilink

I am trying to stream bluetooth audio on my 2012 Terrain, how do you put the vehicle in Bluetooth audio mode? I do not have the intellilink system…

      akwages,

In your Owner’s manual, it states:

      Pairing
A Bluetooth‐enabled cell phonemust be paired to the Bluetooth system and then connected to the vehicle before it can be used. See your cell phone manufacturer’s user guide for Bluetooth functions before pairing the cell phone. If a Bluetooth phone is not connected, calls will be made using OnStar Hands‐Free Calling, if available. See OnStar Overview on page 14‑1 for more information.

      Pairing Information
. A Bluetooth phone with MP3 capability cannot be paired to the vehicle as a phone and an MP3 player at the same time.
. Up to five cell phones can be paired to the Bluetooth system.
. The pairing process is disabled when the vehicle is moving.
. Pairing only needs to be completed once, unless the pairing information on the cell phone changes or the cell phone is deleted from the system.
. Only one paired cell phone can be connected to the Bluetooth system at a time.
. If multiple paired cell phones are within range of the system, the system connects to the first available paired cell phone in the order that they were first paired to the system. To link to a different paired phone, see “Linking to a Different Phone” later in this section.

      Pairing a Phone
      1. Press the button that looks like a person talking on your steering wheel. The system
responds “Ready,” followed by a tone.
      2. Say “Bluetooth.” This command can be skipped.
      3. Say “Pair.” The system responds with instructions and a four‐digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is used in Step 5.
      4. Start the pairing process on the cell phone that you want to pair. For help with this process, see your cell phone manufacturer’s user guide.
      5. Locate the device named “Your Vehicle” in the list on the cell phone. Follow the instructions on the cell phone to enter the PIN provided in Step 3. After the PIN is successfully entered, the system prompts you to provide a name for the paired cell phone. This name will be used to indicate which phones are paired and connected to the vehicle. The system responds with “ has been successfully paired” after the pairing process is complete.
      6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to pair additional phones.

I hope this was helpful! Let me know if it worked!

I have a 2012 Terrain. I recently had to upgrade my phone to a Galaxy S II. My phone is paired with my Terrain but it did not load my phone contacts. I did not have this problem when I was using the Blackberry Curve. How do I get my contacts to load to my Terrain?

Can I have your VIN so I can see what audio system you have? I have checked http://www.gmtotalconnect.com/compatible-devices/?make=GMC&year=2012&model=Terrain&radio=Gen%209 and it is not showing the Galaxy S II to be compatible with downloading contacts.

      Please advise.

@Vic1212 Yes, I am talking about downloading contacts via Bluetooth.

      @bgsaunders
, I am still not showing your phone to be compatible with your Terrain to download your contacts. I do apologize for the frustrations.

Check http://www.gmtotalconnect.com/compatible-devices/?make=GMC&year=2012&model=Terrain&radio=Gen 9 for more details.

they do have the contacts on the contacts screen you just have to look it up instead of calling on the bluetooth to make it pop up

I have a 2012 GMC Terrain with Nav, bluetooth, CD player set up. My phone won’t stay connected and a dealership service guy told me today that my phone is not on the “approved list of compatible phones.” Is this true??? And is there a list somewhere that I can look at so I can be sure when I buy a new phone that it is on the list (as irritating as that idea is, I can’t deal with all the dropped calls. I have a business to run and client calls are very important to me.)

@LLLynn2020 Bet it’s an iPhone 5. GM needs to deliver an update for the newer Bluetooth firmware these phones have asap. The amount of letters we get over the course of a week about this is incredible!

It’s just very funny that for Iphone4 or the 4S they can stream audio, mp3, and text messages and the Samsung Galaxies can’t do it!!!!! I’ve wonder if they have the hate on Samsung phones 🙁

@vic1212 May seem ironic, but others are experiencing issues with iPhone 5, as well, especially with Bluetooth:

GM just needs to update its infotainment systems for compatibility with the latest devices…

You’d think they’d go out of their way to make the Galaxy line compatible. They are very popular and a lot of them out there.

USB charges the phones but you can’t play your music through either the color touch screen ones nor the intellilink

The new phones and operating systems tend to either work or not work with these GM systems when they are new. Case in point the I phone 3 worked great and the 5 had a few issues at first.

Apple offered updates to the 5 and their newest OS they have. It fixed all the issue.

Too many mistake these at GM issues when the phone makers are responsible for meeting the GM system need. The way it works with the auto MFG is they set their systems up and each and every phone maker is responsible for meeting these systems.

I the automakers had to account for every phone system out there they would never get all of them covered. More phones vs less auto system get it?

My recommendation is keep with a current common phone and make sure to keep the latest updates in it and your system will work. My Terrain has been flaw less out side the incoming call issue on my new 5 but that went away months ago with the update from Apple.

I have a 2012 Terrain SLE and a Galaxy S4. I am able to sync the bluetooth to make/answer calls. Is there a way to listen to music or Pandora from the phone? Thought of buying a iBOLT Dock’n Play cable for Samsung Galaxy phones (designed to connect sound from Apps to car-stereo speakers, for Samsung S4, Note 3 and S3 USB with an Aux cable attached as one) but not sure if it will work either. Any suggestions?

@kaykara3 it just depends if you have the color touch radio or the Intellilink system. If it’s the color touch radio then it wont. Mine happens to be the color touch radio with nav and I know my won’t work for sure. But your suggestion seemed to be interesting and I would try that but I would see if your car have the intellilink

I am happy to announce that the iBOLT Dock’n Play cable for Samsung Galaxy phones from Amazon ($19.95) has gave me the capability to listen to Pandora and the music from my Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Terrain SLE (color touch radio). The cord is very long for the iBOLT Dock n’ Play but I can deal. Hope this help others with the same problem.

I have a 2012 GMC Terrain SLT that I just purchased. My issue is the push to talk button typically does not respond. I was able to pair my phone to the vehicle fine and everything operates accept the push to talk button on the steering wheel which is unresponsive. This a.m., I deleted the paired phone from the vehicle, did a factory reset on the radio and it said “Speech Recognition Not Available”. Any idea what’s causing this?

      Hi there,
I bought 2013 Terrain SLT-2 in Saudi Arabia.
I discovered it didn’t have bluetooth in the menu. No one is helpful at the dealer.
Is there something that can be changed through downloading some kind of update?
      Appreciate some help!

I have a 2012 SLE Terrain. I do not know if I have Intellilink, but it appears from posts, if I don’t have Pandora or Streamit icons I may not have it. I guess I just have Infotainment, but don’t know if that makes sense.

Problem. I can’t stream audio via bluetooth from my Samsung Galaxy, I’ve had S3, S5 and now S6. No problem bluetooth calls. I have to have AUX on and use a jack cable to play music from my device. Very inconvenient, and I have to grab my device while driving to select music from phone etc.., It doesn’t appear I have audio mode when looking at my bluetooth setting in my vehicle.

      Questions:
      1) If I don’t have Intellilink, can I upgrade through a new firmware? If so, how do I get it?
      2) If I don’t need Intellilink, how can I stream music from my device via bluetooth, without the way I’m doing it now w/ aux jack?

There is the noise of environment causing the voice commands to not recognize, although some words that are speaks out loud can manage to understand. Even in my place with medical voice over recognition provided by http://www.debbieirwin.com/medical-voiceover-narration/, still some words can’t pick up or recognized it wrong.
