Ready to buy an Equinox. The question of mylink on 2012’s keeps coming up and today my dealer couldn’t clearly answer if it is available on 12’s. I can find in places it’s on late production 2012’s but other sites say no. Can someone answer this? If I’m going to buy one it will need the latest mylink features. How can I tell if it has mylink and not one of the other touch screen onstar info centers?

Turn the vehicle on, push and “hold” the telephone button on the rearview mirror. The automated system will say something like, “Welcome to OnStar 9.2”, as long as it’s OnStar Generation 9.0 or later you should have My Link. That’s what we do on Terrains.

Good to know. I returned to my dealer today and to get the color/interior combination we wound up with a 2013 LTZ found at another dealer. They are working out the vehicle exchange to get it here.
The dealer said it has to be looked up on the build sheet and is different on each vehicle?
Thank you for answering my question.

I was gonna say or you can look up the window sticker to see if it has it.

@Row Congrats on the ‘Nox! Did you get it yet?

One of the surefire ways to know if it’s equipped with MyLink is to look at the screen upon starting the vehicle. If the animation has MyLink written/animated across it, then you’re in luck. If not, then it has the Color Touch Screen — which is NOT MyLink.

I may have given incorrect advice. My information was for the OnStar RemoteLink connection.

@CraigInIndy Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

How do we update the mylink firmware. Can onstar do it?

@ghoststl The updates are huge (hundreds of MB), so I wouldn’t expect OnStar to be able to download them to the vehicle. What’s more than likely to happen is that Chevy will provide the update for download on its website. From there, you can put the update on a USB drive, plug the drive into the USB port in the car, and MyLink will update from there.

Other than that, I’m sure the dealer will be able to install the update as well.

@vic1212 Is who going to update it? The dealer? Yes.
