In this house we have three Saturn’s and one Pontiac. I’m not delusional enough to have hallucinations that GM will be bringing Oldsmobile, Pontiac, or Saturn back in the next year or the next thirty years. I would like to see a Chevy SKY/SOLSTICE type car in the near future. Would also like to see a CRUZE with 190hp non turbo. Doubt I’ll see any of the above take place. With that said I do not see me buying any new GM vehicles. -

ParticipantI have no idea how you came up with that interpretation of what I said. I will say it again…I’d like to see a Chevy along the lines of a SKY/Solstice in the future.
I do not recall saying anything was the best
I do not see in my post saying any car is the best
I do not see me naming the two best cars GM has ever producedStill I’d like to see something like the SKY/Solstice built again. My Solstice won’t last forever.

ParticipantBut you did say that you don’t see yourself buying any (current) GM vehicles, and you said that you’d like to see a Chevy Sky/Solstice and/or non turbo 190hp Cruze. GM never offered a non turbo 190hp Cruze, so that leaves with Sky/Solstices as being your favorite and there is nothing wrong with that.

ParticipantNo I do not see myself buying any the current offerings from GM. I did say, “I would like to see a Chevy SKY/SOLSTICE type car in the near future” Key word being “type”. I made no request that GM let Chevrolet build a KAPPA platform car under another name. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

ParticipantWhy do you not see any GM in your future, is it a brand issue, what is it. What type of vehicle do you see in your future, why was Saturn such a big brand in your household.

Keymaster@yabadabadoo I think it’s the fact that GM no longer makes a vehicle such as the Sky/Solstice… if that’s what @RJlON is indeed looking for. In that case, the only thing for him to do would be to get a Mazda MX5/Miata — which is a fine vehicle. But the fact of the matter is that GM (namely, Chevy) needs a small and inexpensive roadster.

Participantyaba: I see nothing in the GM line up that I would buy. I sure don’t want a 138hp 3100lb Cruze. I’d take a 190hp Cruze. I don’t need a car and GM has nothing I want it’s that easy.
alex: I’m not looking for anything and if I were GM has nothing I want. I don’t want a MX5. GM had many cars from 2006-2010 that I would have spent money on and some I did.
I like compact cars starting long ago with Corvairs that I bought used. First new compact car I bought was a Chevy Monza Town Cpe with that tiny little 305 2barrel @140 hp and under 2,800 lbs. A couple tweaks to the V/8 and it pulled the Monza along real nice. To think the little 4 bangers listed below are now doing better then the small V/8 did in that Monza. With that said I think I know what I like in GM compact cars
HHR 2.4L
HHR SS,
Solstice 2.4L
Solstice turbo
SKY 2.4L
SKY turbo
ION-3 2.4L
ION Redline SC
Cobalt 2.4L
Cobalt turbo or SC
Pontiac G5 2.4L (coupe only)All the 2.4’s gave desent power to weight. All the boosted 2.0’s are great to drive. If this was a brand only thing like yabo may have suggested then I would have bought the under powered yet desent handling Saturn Astra, but I didn’t. A small roadster like the KAPPA would be a nice addition to the Chevy line-up just as a 190 and 260hp CRUZE.

ParticipantGM does not have a sporty premium compact vehicle now, but that should change with the introduction of the alpha chassis. Though, that may not be as small of a car as you’re looking for.

Keymaster@aza993a The ATS will make a great addition, but it will come at a price, especially when you consider that the base engine in the ATS will be the 2.5 N/A ECOTEC.
The Cruze must get a more powerful engine option. This is the one thing I came away with after driving one for a year. It’s pretty much a perfect car (handling, styling, NVH, tech) except for the inability to get a more powerful engine for those that want it.

ParticipantHello GMA, I’ve been lurking through this site for a few months and thought I’d sign-up and join the discussions. I used to look through gm fastlane blog until it got pretty stale.
A few relevant things about me…
I’ve been raised a GM (Pontiac) fan thanks to my father. I own a 1972 Grand Prix (600+ HP), 2001 Grand Prix (Daily driver), 1989 Chevy 1/2Ton LB (>260k miles), and a 2005 Chevy Crew Cab (the Wife’s).
I supported the Auto-“bailout” because this country needs more innovative companies that MANUFACTURE a tangible product (unlike banks).
I believe GM is on the right path, and hope to see more performance oriented offerings from them in the future – after all, my ’01 GP won’t last forever. 🙂 -

KeymasterHey @Brian_E — welcome to the forum mate! It’s great to have ya!
I agree with you on all accounts regarding the bailout. Services are easily replicable. Not so much with a service.
PS: You know, you just may get your wish wih a higher performance offering from Chevy. There is something coming. We don’t know what it is, but we keep hearing about something exciting. We just can’t exude the details.

KeymasterYes sir, welcome @mohchevy to GM Authority!
I think you’ll see Chevy begin to offer more of its global models across Africa in general, although I’m not directly familiar with the Algerian auto market myself… Perhaps the same thing could be said of Cadillac — since its in the process of globalizing its product lineup in the same way as Chevy.
