ParticipantI had my 2019 GMC Terrain (58000 miles) services recently. It was recommended by the service folks that I get a transmission flush and a fuel induction service the next time I need service.
My question: how critical are these? I assume these were recommended based on mileage, rather than anything observed.
Care to provide advice to this novice?
TIA

ParticipantI am surprised they didn’t advise you sooner. I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance, hence out of 50+ cars and trucks, 8 boats, over 30 motorcycles, jet skiis and God know whatever I virtually never has a single repair. I have a ’21 Colorado with 19K miles and I am getting ready to have the trans flushed and fluid replaced with synthetic ATF. Once you have replaced the original fluid and cleaned out the debris from break in, and switch to syn. ATF you’re good for 50K miles. This is cheap insurance. A transmission overall is about $4K+ on newer cars/trucks. Living in a hot climate or towing as I do, high quality ATF and more frequent changes are key to preventing large out of pocket expenses. All AFT breaks down with age, temperature, foreign partials, and shearing from mechanical pressure on the fluid. Finally consider how short GM warranties are. Better to be safe than sorry.

ParticipantIMO this is not needed.. Look in the owners manual and you won’t find a recommended transmission flush or fuel induction cleaning. Dealers ONLY recommend what makes them money and these services rake in huge profits from the unsuspecting.
People think of the service advisors (also called a service writer) as a mechanic but basically all they are are salesmen. They’re even paid on commissions in a lot of dealerships. That means that the more work they convince you that your vehicles needs, the more money that puts in their pockets.
