I have a restored 1962 Chevy C10 with a late 90s era 5.7L 350 V8 with about 5000 miles on it. It has a keyless start with a toggle that serves as a kill switch and an accessory on – with a push button ignition. The last time it would start took 6-7 tries – essentially no crank whatsoever- but all gauges on, radio on, headlights fine – battery showing 12 volts – and no sound from engine whatsoever. I eventually moved the column shifter to reverse and back to park and it started. I drove it for 15-20 minutes, parked it and tried to restart it and nothing. I moved the column shifter to neutral and no crank either. The steering wheel has locked and no efforts to unlock it have been successful. Again, all gauges on with accessory on and no loss of power at battery. I am assuming neutral safety switch and look forward to other’s comments. Thanks.
I had the same problem on one of my cars and it was the neutral safety switch. Usually they just go without any warning. Also check for any loose brackets or cables, but it definitely sounds like the safety switch
Appreciate the response @GM Fan.
No problem! Just curious, what brand of keyless start do you have? I have an ls swapped 78 camaro ive been thinking about doing that to
