Suppose the EPA is either abolished or the numerous regulations hampering General Motors are reduced. Would it be possible to reintroduce old school engines (I-6 230, 250, 292 CID, a manual transmission(s) with granny low gearing? These would be non-turbo engines. I prefer analog as it reduces the chance of breakdowns. My point is that I want a farm truck, and I can get 500,000 miles before needing an overhaul.
1982 I purchased a GMC 1/2, I-6 230, 4-speed granny low 2WD, LWB, from the original owner. She ran great for me. I did replace the brake shoes, the clutch, and the right front headlight. So much room under the hood made it easy to conduct maintenance. The old saying KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid.

If the EPA was abolished, the states would pick up the regulation slack as needed. Just like today in California, certain vehicles cannot be sold there. In many states now, the old vehicle that you describe isn’t illegal to use.

What a pipe dream! This is never going back to 82! Get over it and move on with the rest of us! I have a old 1970 C10 and a 2021 Silverado, are they different? Yes! But we are not going back to that era nor should we!
