      I bought a used CTS and my key fob has no key in it and it won’t work to even get in my car. I’ve changed the batteries in it and that didn’t fix the problem. The dealer said the only way to fix it is to have it towed to them. Cant even open the door. Tow truck wont be able to do anything if the doors are locked.

      Take your registration or title and drivers license to any gm dealer. With the vin they can cut a key for you.

      @MainWayne would the key the dealer “cuts” be a “regular” key or a fob?

      gingerserrano, does your car have a good battery? Is your CTS equipped with keyless start?

      @alex it is a regular key. And you can buy a new fob and have it programmed for the car. And any one with a tow truck should be able to open the door.

      Go to the parts department for the key. Not the service dept.

      @Mainwayne got it. I wonder, though, how much the towing company would be able to do with the unlocked CTS if it can’t be shifted out of park (assuming it is an automatic).

      @GingerSerrano
      have you had any luck?

      Remove the driveshaft. Or find a repo man. You recently had a video of a repo pulling a corvette out of a parking space in 10 seconds.

      Lol, how about “put the car on bricks and push it to the dealer on a dolly”? I think the solution @gingerserrano is looking for is less complex and expensive than either of those. A new/reprogrammed key/key fob seems to be the best solution.

      I have a 2009 CTS-V. My key fob has a key inside of it. Yours should too. Your drivers side door has a lock for a key doesn’t it? Where do you think the key is? This is for the emergency key hidden inside the fob. There is a little tab on your key fob that opens the fob and you will find the key inside. It’s an odd looking key but it opens the drivers door. There is also a USB-like slot inside the center console where your key fob can be inserted. There is a ‘crystal’ (GM’s description not mine) in the key that matches with this insertion slot to allow the car to be started in the event that the ‘proximity fob’ is not detected due to a depleted battery or whatever. I know with the 2009 CTS models, it was reported that the CTS has problems with the electronic keys. With one of my two fobs I routinely get the message “electronic key not detected” but I can start the car. When I turn the car off it says “electronic key not detected – restart allowed”. It’s a proximity key fob as everyone knows, and it appears that the car isn’t detecting this fob. The other one of the two fobs works fine. The dealership checked the battery in the troublesome fob. Their suggestion now is to bring the car in with both fobs. My guess is that they will replace one (or both) of them.

      @gingerserrano I agree with @CVT that the key fob should have a key inside of it for emergency purposes. However, if you do not have the key, you will have to get to the dealership to get a new one made.

      Please let us know if you were able to get one.

      I have a 09 CTS4 with Keyless entry and the only time I got “Electronic Key Not Detected” was when the fob had a weak battery. Replaced battery in both fobs at the same time and never had the problem again.

      Note: buy good batteries, look at the expiration date.

      I bought the car new 4 yrs ago this month. It has been a good car so far but only 25,000 miles. Summer catting around car.
