If I don’t get a new engine and will get a new thicker oil (0W 40) ,that is what they are recommending. My question is: do I have a choice on what oil they put in my truck. I have a 2021 GMC Sierra AT4. I would prefer a 5W 30 oil replacement. Do I have a say? Any thoughts on this ?
At as a dealer we have no idea. The latest update says nothing about 0-40 weather you a engine or not. Myself, I’d use 0-40 before I’d use 5-30.
I thought I read an article that stated NHTSA had not approved the oil change solution to solve the 6.2L manufacturing defects?
I haven’t heard that. You would think that would be all over the internet.
The latest bulletin from GM #N252494000 for engine that passes the picoscope test dealers are to change the oil and filter with 0-40 oil, along with a new oil cap. For those that fail GM will replace the engine and use 0-20 oil. GM says in the bulletin this is a parts failure not a oil problem
