Need help quick if possible. I just bought the 2022 GMC 1500 Sierra Elevation. It has the 3.0 IL Turbo Diesel LM2. 10 speed auto transmission and many towing options BUT the 3.2 ratio rear axel! The dealership told me around 13000 towing capability and I see that it can possibly have that but after puchase I got many different opinions from sales manager, fiance manager, and others untill they finally all agreed it was close to 13000 and not 8800 lbs. How can I know 100% for sure. I am concerned about the axel ratio.

To be clear this is a 2022 Elevation Refresh edition.

With that axle ratio it does NOT tow 13k pounds – it would need the max trailer option and the axle ratio would be 3.73:1. Your salesman lied to you. Good luck.

Thank you. That’s what I was afraid of.

The door label will state what the towing capacity is for the truck. Without the Max Tow option, its likely 8800 lbs. That’s what my 2020 1500 SLT with a 6.2L is rated.
Actually, the gears are 3.42 in the Max Package.
“Max Trailering Package: This package is a requirement in order to reach the maximum 13,000-pound towing capacity on the Sierra. It includes an automatic locking rear differential, enhanced cooling radiator, 9.76-inch axle, 3.42 axle ratio, 220-amp alternator, and much more.”
The unknown factor, if the receiver hitch is the same for a truck with a towing capacity of 8800 lbs. and/or 13000 lbs. The door label shows the hitch rating at 10% of the gross tow rating, i.e., 880 lbs. for a towing of 8800 lbs.
It seems unlikely GM would have two different receivers, one for 8800 and another for 13000 – But they do things differently to save a nickel.
I share mr-gearhead’s option, you were led down the wrong path. Good Luck……………

NB: The Max Trailering axle ratio is 3.42 for the 6.2L and 3.73 for the Duramax 3.0L.

I just saw that on another chart—–sorry for the miscommunication. What are your thoughts on the hitch weight limits?

Good question and don’t know – the only thing I found was in the manual was 1,250 lbs for a conventional trailer hitch — nothing about a max. trailering hitch.
