ParticipantI’ve been giving this topic very much thought lately. My 2012 Camaro is the perfect car for me. It has the looks of a stripper with the athleticism of a pro athlete. But I know that I’ll have to give it up in a few years since the wife is starting to talk about babies… and more babies… and, well, you know how that goes.
I won’t want to give up RWD or a stick… but I’ll need four doors. Looks like the Charger/300C will be my only options.
What are the chances of Chevy actually bringing back the G8 or making the Caprice available outside of police use?

MemberNobody internally seems to wanna talk about it, but hopefully we are surprised at LA or NAIAS in the coming months, but don’t count on anything until 2013 at the earliest.

ParticipantI just hope they don’t bring the G8/Commodore over. As great of a car as it was/is, what Chev needs is a big car with some performance. A Caprice would do the trick, but the Commy is too small. Take it from a previous G8 owner – I had more rear leg room in my 1997 3 series than my G8.

ParticipantHolden Caprices are available. Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersberg, Maryland has delivered (2012) private customer orders.

Keymaster@lt1george That’s cool, but definitely not a mass-market solution. They’ll sell a few here and there — until the loophole(s) is closed. The car doesn’t have any marketing behind it for the consumer, making it difficult to be truly competitive.

ParticipantThe police variant, Chevy/Holden Caprice is dated looking fine for police sales but does not fit the newer Chevy design language. Chevy needs a strong large vehicle contender my guess is we will see something at a show in the coming year.

ParticipantI just talked to a guy who works for GM, the rummer is that next gen Caprice will be available to the general public.

KeymasterThe rumor that never dies! Will there even be a RWD Caprice for the next gen, seeing how the Zeta platform is at risk of being sunset in favor of Alpha/Omega?

ParticipantAlpha/Omega are RWD platforms, so as long as next gen Caprice is riding one of them, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

KeymasterThey are/will be rear wheel drive, indeed. But with the exception of the global 6th gen Camaro, they’re premium RWD. Not sure if they’ll be suited for the “starting at $30,000 full size maistream sedan use.”

ParticipantYou could get a Buick Regal GS, you may have to give up RWD, but it has a 6 speed manual trans, and it is a 4dr with the reputation of a family brand! With a starting price of $35,720 you can’t go wrong, with a 270HP High output ECOTEC 2.0L Turbocharged engine, it basically has all you can get for that price!
