New to this forum. Lifetime Ford guy. Maybe ten trucks over 40 years. Got fed up with Ford issues and dove into a GMC. 2024 Sierra Denali 1500. Loaded and beautiful. I read up on lifter issues and thought things were figured out. I have the gas V8 5.3. At 700 miles I started to hear that awful sound. Tap tap tap tap at start up. I thought oh no this can’t be happening. Drove it for a while. When warm it was quiet for a couple weeks then bam. Very loud tapping at start up and idle. Cold or warm. Drove into dealer. Shop foreman came out and took a listen. He said I should not drive it anymore and checked it in. In the following days they found metal partials in the oil filter and some in the pan. Oil pressure checks are under way as well as valve covers off to confirm oil flow and rocker operation. They said this is most likely an engine replacement but engines are a long wait due to demand around the country for similar reasons. The DFM may be a factor. Lifters too. But more alarming could be cam, crank related. Beautiful truck but and awful experience so far. What a mess.

Update. Confirmed a few things. GM is freaking out about this. Forums like this get information out to the public. News
Like this is bad. GM continues to go through all kinds of cause of failure tests. They want to know what happened.
Confirmed metal contaminated oil is everywhere. Removed pan and metal sparkles and flakes are in the pan and can be suspended in oil with a swirl.
New engines are not on back order at this time. At least the gas 5.3.

Official cause of failure from GMC. Multiple rod bearing failure due to oil starvation of unknown cause. GM speculation is machining debris left in oil passages or a faulty oil pump. There were no oil pressure warning lights or retrievable codes. In other words no clue what happened. Crank and rods are cooked. All different colors from extreme heat. Tech said all kinds of 6.2 are locking up and failing. Less on 5.3 but still an avalanche of shit and poor workmanship
