See from the Terrain Denali announcement that the 4cyl Ecoboost engine will be offered. Do you know if the Ecoboost engine will be offered on all 2013 Terrain models?

EcoBoost is a Ford name and engine technology… Are you thinking Ecotec?

      Or TT ecotec?

      A twin-turboed Ecotec? Hmmm.

it would be nice because the Ecoboost 2.0 isn’t that a TT?

Nope, single turbo. The only EcoBoost that has two turbos is the 3.5. And even then, it’s not a “twin turbo” setup.

Sorry for the brand confusion. Yes I mean Ecotec. Does anyone know if the Ecotec engine will be available in all Terrain models in 2013?

Yeah, the names are quite similar — no problem! But yes, the 2.4 Ecotec will be the standard engine for the 2013 model year Terrain, if not the new 2.5.

Alex, according to the sales reference guide, it remains the 2.4 for the 2013 Terrain.

@CraigInIndy Are the order ref. guides out already for the 2013s?

It’s an internal pre-introduction salesperson reference guide for Terrain Denali. Not available to the public yet.

How does “Powerboost” sounds to be ecoboost competitive?

i think that’s kinda like copying since ford has “PowerStroke” lol btw just picked up my Terrain SLE-2 with V6

I don’t know if Ecotec needs a new name per se, it just needs to be marketed more — like Ford markets the EcoBoost. Then again, the Ecotec applies to turbo and non-turbo four-cylinder applications, whereas EcoBoost only applies to turbocharged units (threes, fours, and sixes). So it seems that Chevy needs a new name for its turbo-charged powerplants.

By the way, Vic — congrats on the Terrain. Since we’ve been discussing brands, etc., what made you go with the GMC over the Chevy?

Yes, but ford called theirs “duratec” like Duramax

That’s what I’m sayin’ — give the non-turbo engines one name and the turbo-charged units, another.

Edit: @lex I think you were replying to @vic1212 in pointing out the name similarities. My b.

@Alex I think it’s how dealers treat their customers. The offer that I got on the Terrain was a steal (it’s an SLE-2 with V6 and Nav) whereas the deals that I got on the Equinox were much less or no discounts at all. The car was 30 grand and with incentives it’s 28 grand close to 29 and then with my trade-in on Lucerne so I ended up paying 20 thousand.

But I think GM should just not name their engines like how Ford does. I mean do you see Hyundai/Kia naming their turbo 4s?

So it came down to the financial aspect… which is understandable. Some Chevy stores hang on to their Equinoxes and only sell them to those who don’t want to negotiate, since they may be in limited supply in their area.

“I mean do you see Hyundai/Kia naming their turbo 4s?”

Not yet; it’s a matter of branding. Fact is, people know that “EcoBoost” is associated with Ford — and they know it’s something economical yet peppy.

On top of that, Hyundai and Kia aren’t examples of great marketing or automotive excellence; they’re still playing catch-up, although they’ve done a fine job of it.

This dealer of mine they only have one Equinox LTZ (this one has technically nothing in terms of options except for V6 and protection pkg.) and was shipped from other dealer and already has 754 ish miles on the car. Technically, new cars suppose to have 12-50 miles. So that was a big concern and we tried to slash the price on that car since it has so many miles but they just slash the price so little. So we went to see another dealer 40 miles away from us and they have a fully equipped Equinox with nav, foward collision, etc. and sells about the same price as the first equinox i was talking about. But again, nobody want to help us out. According to them, we were suppose to “call” them before we go.

Or not unless GM wants to name their turbo 4s “TurboBoost”? That’s all I can think of.

if gm renames there 4/6 banger engines i think they should keep the ‘-tec’ suffix since it fits well i mean they already have two powertrains with it ecotec and voltec. idk just thinking out loud

I just bought my granddaughter a 2013 Terrain, on the front of the floor console, in front of the shifter, there’s a button marked Eco or something like that. Can someone tell me what it’s supposed to do? Thanks!

Oh by the way it’s 4 banger.

Eco button on the Terrain is just to adjust the throttle response and transmission to make the car more fuel efficient to drive. That button can be a hit or miss for some people. But that’s what it does @bamp
