ParticipantDoes GM really never stop improving? Do they really do over the air software updates? I’m going at nearly a year of ownership of my 2023 GMC Canyon Denali and haven’t seen one. My truck is giving me a red exclamation point and telling me my security patch is over a year old. That doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy inside considering I’m in the cyber security field of work. Below is what I’ve tried:
-I contacted GMC via the “My GMC” app and they had no idea, in fact, they quoted me a page from my owners manual about it. They said that’s all they can do. I have the full text transcript if anyone cares to read it.
-I pressed the OnStar button and talked to a rep from there and they put me on hold while they reached out to their technicians only to tell me they had no idea.
-I have tried about 6,000 times (probably more like 150 times) to manually check for updates and it tells me everything is up to date using Android version 12 and Security patch from April 1, 2023. [Side Question: Is this the same version and patch that everyone else sees?]
I’m at a loss. Normally I wouldn’t care this much, but they advertise these updates like crazy and the software is far from perfect. Everyone I talk to who has one of these 3rd gen trucks has issues. So I keep hoping GM will push an update…..but when?

ParticipantYes, they do updates OTA. I’ve had one on my Buick however they are doing updates all the time that you’ll never know happened.
Myself, I’ve never seen a ad for a update.
You can take it into your dealer and they can plug it in to the GM service and see if your current.
Keep in mind that GM has no idea what it means to provide customer service but good luck.

ParticipantWell if they are doing updates it’s not indicating it anywhere in my truck or the MyGMC app. I pull up my “update history” and it’s completely blank.
As for customer service, you’re not wrong. The customer service I’ve gotten the two times I’ve been in for service was:
1) They never called me when my truck was ready and I had to use the GPS on my truck to locate it in a separate lot across the street.
2) They chipped my paint in two spots on my driver side door because they opened the door while the truck was on the lift. -

ParticipantThe customer service problems you had was the dealer not GM

ParticipantThis was posted last fall. Issues with OTA updates appears to have paused OTA updates.

ParticipantThanks for this link about the OTA updates. So there’s a sliver of hope they are still trying to figure things out. I hope they can get it straightened out and push a successful update soon.

ParticipantMy Yukon was last updated in August 2023, and the Google Maps version is from November 2023. It seems like GMC has stopped improving their technology…
