Since 1974 I’ve been a lifelong GM owner/ lessee (except for my three Fords from 2014 to 2022) I’m currently driving a 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, and was anticipating the rollout of the 2024 Equinox EV. Learning that Android Auto & Apple CarPlay will no longer be available for their 2024 EVs (because of “safety concerns”) is a dealbreaker for me. I’m all for companies making money (after all that is always the bottom line), However, GM using the excuse of “safety concerns” is an insult to the consumers’ intelligence. GM’s willingness to eliminate consumer choice for a subscription-based platform is disheartening. I LIKE OPTIONS!!!!
I’ve had apple carplay in my prior 2 Volts, from 2012 – 2024 and I was thinking the same thing. No deal. But I wanted an EV and thought I wasn’t going to let an Apple product keep me from a new vehicle that I wanted. I test drove the Blazer and Equinox EVs and liked them, so I bought the Equinox. The Blazer is nice but bigger than I need. It turns out I like the google setup and I can still stream and plug-in my phone.
Dumb stupid move
So if I buy a new Blazer EV I get a data package included for a few years, and then I have to pay on star every month. if I buy a used one I have to buy an on star subscription to use google maps or any other app. This is a dumb move and I’m out . Nothing wrong with my android auto and the data I use is already paid for with my phone plan. What am I missing her.
