ParticipantMy dash had started to rattle, upon further investigation I found a huge crack right in front of the steering wheel. Earlier my lights control had fell back into dash. Pulled it back but very loose. Just found out how expensive it’s going to be to replace $$$$. Has anyone else had this problem? What does GM have to say about it?

Moderator@dcclowdus You’re not the only one with the cracking dashboard problem; it seems that a bunch of folks are having issues with cracks in their dashboards in the GMT900 vehicles. Here some background info on the matter:
http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/08/gmt-900-gmc-chevy-vehicles-subject-to-frequently-cracking-dashboards/To my knowledge, GM hasn’t released any official recall or repair programs. However, I do believe that it has “helped” some customers with the the replacement (either fully or partially is another question).
Have you tried escalating the issue to (the corporate) GM Customer Service? If not, I’d start there.

ParticipantAlex has the right idea, in fact I was thinking the same thing before I even read his response. I would definitely go to corporate about this issue. Although, it may be worth your time taking it into the shop first just to see what they might do. You never know, they could end up taking care of it for you with out the hassle of dealing with someone from corporate.

ParticipantI just discovered a 7 inch crack on my dash above the steering wheel. This is on a three year old vehicle. what kind of piece of trash have I purchased? Is GM going to stand behind their products?

ParticipantThe dealer says the regular price is $ 900 but they will help me out and only charge me $ 600. They were very interested in where I had purchased it? If I had it maintained it at their dealership? Why does that matter when we have a defective GM product. Why is GM not stepping up to this??

ParticipantAbout 7 months ago I bought a beautiful 2010 Suburban. Diamond Edition. Which Looks like new even tho it had 90K on it.
Except for a small crack on top the dash next to the passenger air bag. A few months later while I was driving I heard a crack sound and the dash started vibrating. I noticed a 2″ crack in front of the cluster. I put a dash cover on it to help stop the vibrating. a week later the dash stated vibrating even more. Now the 2″ crack is it about 6″. Checking the internet, this is a very common thing for the GM dashes to crack, even some only a couple of years old.
If any of you have a email or web address on who to contact regarding this let me know.
Thanks much
Dennis
