I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu with MyLink and am attempting to sync my contacts from my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. I am able to pair just fine. Calls work, audio plays, etc. … it’s just the contacts that don’t sync.
If I attempt to do a voice call, I get a message that the phone book download is in progress. My phone does prompt me to allow the Malibu to access contacts and call history, to which I respond Yes. However, it still does not sync contacts.
I tried it with my wife’s Galaxy S4, and it does work properly, so it is a phone-specific issue, but I can’t figure out why it won’t sync mine.
There is literally nothing worse than scouring the internet, finding the same problem, and OP didn’t update with his fix. (I take that back — “nvm fixed it” with no explanation is worse.)
I downloaded Bluetooth Phonebook and my contacts now sync fine. It replaces the built-in Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP).

It appears that this is an issue specific to the Samsung Galaxy S3, and I’ve read about issues where the phone book doesn’t sync on these devices at all.
Thanks for posting your solution, @inntheboat
I just bought the 2013 Malibu, What’s the trick to sync my contacts from the Samsung S4 ???
