The XLR was such an amazing car. Any possibility they might make the ATS in a convertible form?
I sure as heck hope so. Besides Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class, GM is the only major luxury player without a compact convertible. And Benz will have a C-Class drop-top with the new C-Class.
Here’s a rendering of an ATS Convertible to whet our appetites:

My understanding? An ATS convertible is engineered and “doable”. Based upon the new ATS coupe body, of course. My local Mercedes dealer always stocks the various Mercedes convertibles and sells them. Ladies tend to own them usually in white, red or black. All with the soft beige/tan leather interior – which is absolutely gorgeous. Quite a number of BMW 6 series convertibles also, usually in black with aftermarket wheel/tire combinations. The CTS coupe in standard and V series owned by women, quite common here also. I suspect the new ATS coupe will be very popular with this same group of customers.
Yeah, the ATS line should be pretty popular among existing luxury car buyers so long as the brand is marketed correctly/effectively to them. It really deserves to be, just because the product is truly on par with (if not better than) the competition.
And a convertible is totally doable off the ATS Coupe foundation, which itself is based on the ATS Sedan. Here’s to hoping for one… and a wagon variant as well. And while we’re at it, how about a coupe variant of the new 2014 CTS as well.
