I have recently come to own a low miles, strong running, 6.5td and I’m going to swap it into my 1990 k1500 that is currently running a 5.7 tbi. My question is, will the k1500 be able to hold the 6.5? I know they made 1500s with the 6.5 however were there any differences as far as frame and suspension? My 1500 was built with the hd chassis option and it has the 14 bolt sf rear end. I’m going to be swapping my nv3500 5spd with the nv4500 5spd as well. Also I’ll be rehearing the front and rear diffs from 3.42 to 4.10. Again though the main question here is will the “heavy half,” HD chassis and 6 lug, 14b sf rear end hold up to the 6.5. Appreciate any input as this project will be a long and expensive one.
