So my grandpa just bought a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain with the 5.3 about a year ago. It now has around 18,000 miles on it and he is having this problem (Ive seen it happen also) where at random times while he is driving on the street it will randomly try to shift into 4-Wheel drive. Today I was driving it at about 30 mph and a message popped up on the screen that says “You must be going 3mph to shift into 4low” THE 4WHEEL DRIVE DIAL IS IN THE 2 WHEEL DRIVE POSITION but the light on the dial flashes indicating it trying to shift even though the dial is set to 2 hi. The message sometimes lasts for a minute and sometimes it lasts for 5 seconds. He said when he was backing into his driveway he noticed it shifted into 4-wheel drive, the light on the dial indicates that its in 4 wheel drive but the dial is set to 2 hi. When this happens, if you switch the dial to 4hi and then back to 2 hi it will disengage 4 wheel drive. What could this be? A bad switch? Bad ground? Thanks
