Just got my new RST with the 3.0 duramax diesel. Love the truck but had this odd starting issue at about 125 miles, foot on brake and pressed the start button and the starter cranked for about 15 seconds and did not start. 900 miles not happened again. Was reading on another forum and it appears to be a common issue, but no fix yet for GM.
Yes, I have had the same trouble 4 times in 4,200 miles. cranks real fast with no attempt to start, times out and stops cranking, then I retry to starts and starts instantly. has happened 4 times all after a warm restart after shutting down the restarting between 5 mins and 1 hour. I have aborted the time-out crank period by putting the truck in drive with my foot on the brake. Then it restarts and runs smooth as if nothing was ever wrong?
Have talked to several 3.0 Duramax owners that have also have the same problem, They have brought it back to the dealer and the dealer says no Bulletins yet and hard to diagnosis unless they can get to act up. I agree.

Update, There is a new Service Bulletin that came out 8/16/21 for this exact condition, something about shimming the cam sensor. I have not made an appointment yet
I’m not going to let the dealer experiment on mine, I think currently their still trying to find the issue.
Interesting tidbit:
I first had the “No Start” at 125 miles. Then went on a 30 day road trip starting at 1000 miles pulling my camper touring the NW coast. Was in tow mode all the time and never had any issues for the next 4600 miles. Got back home and its happened twice in 300 miles in the normal mode. I’m starting to believe its a programming bug.
there is a bulletin out to reprogram the ECM – Posted Oct 4/21
