ParticipantMy 8-month-old, 10,000-mile 2024 Silverado double cab with a 5.3-liter engine and 6 speed transmission would not go in reverse nor above 40MPH 2 weeks ago. It was towed into the dealer and discovered that it needs a new transmission valve body and a 4-wheel drive actuator. Unfortunately, dealers that have a valve body don’t want to give it up and it’s on backorder at the factory with no delivery date. I did file a case with Cheverolet, and they say they’ll have a senior advisor contact me and look into it. Of course, the timing of the holidays isn’t helping! The dealer has been as good as they can, and I was given a loaner (2wd Equinox) which is not reassuring since we’re getting snow in upstate NY.!
The service advisor kind of indicated that they have been hearing about this issue. Has anyone else encountered this?

ParticipantI believe they are still using the 6L80E transmission in the 6-speed models. While I wish you and your new truck nothing but the best, I do hope GM has addressed the torque converter issues in this unit, as they’ve been a significant problem so far.
Since 2020, the electrical and computer-related issues have skyrocketed, with Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) after TSB being issued. It feels like government-imposed fuel economy mandates are forcing automakers to roll out changes before they’ve had enough time to complete all the necessary research and development. I would not be surprised at all if your issue is not electrical, maybe the transmission module.
Unfortunately, U.S. manufacturers seem to be facing more challenges in this area compared to others. It reminds me of the COVID vaccine rollout—pushed out quickly, with insufficient research. The U.S. government’s pressure on automakers to meet fuel economy targets and accelerate the shift to EVs is immense, but it doesn’t feel sustainable. I wish you the best with your new truck, I would put some serious pressure on the dealer where you purchased the truck, call the hotline. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. See ya, Happy holidays
PS, I have been in the automotive tire and repair business going on my 47th year …. -

ParticipantIf you would give me the last 8 of your VIN I’ll see if I can get anymore updated shipping information.
Just a heads up, if GM cant supply a valve body the dealer can install a new transmission.

ParticipantI have a 2024 Chevrolet duramax with a transmission problem and haven’t been able to drive it since 12/23 /24. They say there are no parts it’s a transmission control valve problem. Serial # 1GC4yuey4rf161302

ParticipantRG, I did some research on your truck and the valve body part number 24065357 is on back order with no promise date, the transmission part number 24297784 is also on back order but Classic Chevrolet in Texas shows having of them in stock. They are a huge GM power train dealer and ship allover the country so you might have your dealer call and purchase so they can get you back on the road.

ParticipantI have a 2023 with the lzo + about 35,000 mi. Mine was just in for the transmission valve body replacement. I was on the highway, not towing anything, on my way to the airport.
The GM reps and the dealer that the truck got towed to were all very helpful and I was able to get the ball rolling while I was out of town.
I was floored though whenever she told me that this problem had come up with them before and had taken 3 or 4 weeks for the previous few that had been done. And when they put me in a car when I got back, and thinking that I would not have my truck for a month or longer, I was floored. I am still making my truck payment, even though I was told I wouldn’t have my truck, + I need it for my family things but also for my business.
Upon hearing that it would take so long, I got to looking around and realized that this issue is not just me. Apparently this has been happening in the 2020 through 2022 models, so much so that there was a warranty extension granted to those model years.
The really frustrating part is that if they recognized that that much of their effort was going into fixing this faulty part, why is it still being put on 2023s and 2024s?
To their credit, the g. M. Rep when I contacted customer service has been very polite and seems to be wanting to address my concerns. And threw some luck, the part actually became available shortly after my return. And I was really only without my truck for a couple of days.
But, when the replacement part was put in it is the same part number. My previous truck was a Silverado with 200,000 mi on it and I never had a single engine or transmission issue. I never had this nagging doubt in my mind about the truck. And it made it very easy for me to get this one, which was my first ever brand new vehicle purchase. I’m about to hit the busy season for my business and I do tow a small trailer pretty much everyday for about 8 to 10 weeks. I am not going to lie, I am nervous at this point because I cannot afford for this to happen to me while I’m on the road on my way to a gig.
It is frustrating that a brand new truck is experiencing the same problems that the previous three model years have been experiencing, and As far as I can tell, it has not actually been fixed.
That is a question that I put to The GM rep. I asked what they are trying to do to help reassure customers like me, whose own brand and reputation depends on being reliable. And if my truck is not reliable to get me there than my own brand and reputation as a business owner is at risk.
It is really disappointing and frustrating, but I am hoping for GM to do the right thing by their customers and actually come up with a legitimate solution. If they can do that then there is still a chance that they can retain me and others like me as customers. -

19436461 That was the part number of the valve body that came off and part number of the one that went back on.
When I inquired about that, they said that if there was a change in manufacturer or a change in the process that they used, then the part number would change. This is what I think is crazy. This part had just failed at a little over 30,000 mi. And they put the exact same part with no changes to the actual process in as a replacement.
It’s just crazy to be having the valve body issue of some sort for 4 years and still not have a clear fix. It is a real shame because I like this truck in all other ways, but I do not drive with peace of mind with it at this point. -

ParticipantThat part number matches to a remanufactured valve body. The one that they put on when this one failed was the same part number, also a remanufactured version.
It appears that this has happened so frequently that they are using the remanufactured ones in brand new trucks and even when those failed it was putting a remanufactured one In its place. All of this is new to me, as I had not ever had to Kate such intimate knowledge of this process, but here we are.
This one failed a little over 30,000 miles. After driving on the new one for about a thousand miles, things seem to be going okay. But the fact that it was the exact same part and the exact same part number leaves me driving with anxiety. Instead of Peace of mind. I’m about to hit the busy season for my business and will be on the road with a trailer almost daily. + I will not feel better about this until I get through this stretch. After that, as the replacement nears that same mileage, I anticipate that I would probably be anxious again. But I’m also concerned about the damage that might be being done to the transmission itself as a result of this issue.

ParticipantI’m thinking of buying a new 2024 Silverado double cab 4×4 5.3 L, after using current 2003 Silverado reg cab short bed 5.3 L for over 300k with no note worthy problems. Am appalled by lifter and transmission reports , especially with the trusted name of Allison transmissions.!
How common are these problems; how likely would it be that I would have to deal with it? Since it appears to be a valve assembly problem, what about upgrades or aftermarket? What does the newest service bulletin say? What of the lifters? What else is problematic?I’m still bitter over 2 Impalas, 1 being my first new car, the other a replacement when my wife was too scared to drive the first because of key rotation failure (while GM was still in denial about), and other issues that GM want to patch with Bazooka Bubble Gum when much better aftermarket parts were available. SOOO MUCH, that I swore (a lot actually) that There would never be another GM CAR in my driveway. I can’t part with the 2000 but the 2010 was replaced with a Subaru. But Trucks Too!!!! What is going on since you took over Ms Berra?!?!?

ParticipantThe lifter problem has pretty much gone away on the new trucks and hopefully this plate fixes the transmission problems.. Not sure what aftermarket parts your referring to but most cause more problems that they fix

ParticipantThanks Parts Man1; Do you know the number of that latest transmission bulletin, and where I can get a copy of it? It would give me much more confidence in purchasing a new truck.
