I have having an issue getting any USB MP3 player or USB flash drive connected to the info system in my 2024 Sierra Denali. When I plug in the USB device to any of the three available ports a message comes up on the screen: “NO USB DEVICE DETECTED”. This happens all the time with any USB device and I have contacted the GMC support folks and they were not able to give me reason or fix for this issue. Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to correct it.? According to the vehicle manual you should be able to connect a USB device by selecting the USB icon on the screen. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve connected a couple of different USB flash drives (32/64Gb capacity) to my ’23 Denali with no issues – after a bit of testing. See the detail I posted here recently. Not sure about the USB-C ports – I’m using the port inside the center console with a chiclet sized flash drive. I think the one near the front works too. For grins I tried the USB in the rear of the console and it did not work at all.

Sorry to hear about your issue. It might help to check if your USB devices are formatted to FAT32 or exFAT, as some systems are picky about formats.

I have tried many flash drives (2.0, 3.0, and 3.10) and MP3 players formatted with all the available formats (FAT 32, NTFS, FAT and ExFAT nothing worked. I am at the end of my rope trying to get this issue resolved. Called GMC help, contacted the dealer and even tried OnStar. No one had any resolution for me to try. All the flash drives I tried in this vehicle (that did not work) worked perfectly in my 2017 Ford F150. Very disappointed in the service I have been getting from the GMC folks. For what we pay for these vehicles they should send a tech out to our home and trouble shoot this issue and resolve it. I recently completed a review I received from GMC (a few weeks ago) and I wish it hadn’t came when it did because if I received it now it would be a totally different review. The best I could give them now would be your service SUCKS. Should have kept my Ford.

That’s strange. If a message comes up WHEN you connect the flash drive, that implies it detects something.
But if I take one of your original comments literally – that you’re selecting USB “after” plugging in the device, that’s different. In this case, they might have just not connected the wiring during the build.
In my initial testing i was frantically trying one flash drive after another. On a “few” occasions it would not recognize the drive. So I selected FM, then USB. THEN it would find it. Selecting ANY other source would probably suffice as well. Just something to make the system “look” again when you tap USB. It still made no sense because the drive was plugged in the whole time. Figured it was just finicky.
I seldom touch it now. It’s in place and working and has been reliable. Though I do still hold my breath for 1 second when selecting USB.
If you plug a phone into any of the same USB slots, does it begin charging? That would at least prove the connection is present.
You might pick a flash drive, format it, copy 3 MP3’s to the root folder, then plug it in. I was having inconsistent results to begin with and started with that simple approach. Once it worked I started experimenting with moving the MP3’s into folders and creating playlist.
The dealer might not go for it, but I’d ask them if you could try one of the flash drives in any random Denali on the lot. If they let you, and it works, then I think you’ve got a valid service claim. I did that with an Accord in 2010 to be certain it would recognize my iPod. Now, 14 years later the same flash drives I built for the truck also work in the Accord.
STILL though, doesn’t some tech in the shop have a thumb drive they can just plug in and say “see, it works, you’re just doing it wrong” 🙂 That’s not a task that would take an HOUR.

Well, good news on this front. After many months of trial and error trying to get my songs on a flash drive to work with the media system in my truck I finally was successful. From what I learned you have to use iTunes (not windows media player) to make this work. I imported the CD’s I wanted to use (fifteen to be exact) into the iTunes library, then I copied the list and pasted them onto the flash drive. and it worked just fine. The system recognized the flash drive and the songs started playing and so far it’s still working okay. I’m not sure (I’m not a super tech guy) but it appears that when you do this iTunes changes the file extension to “Audio” (AAC audio) file that is compatible with vehicle systems.
Bottom line here is that no one from GM or my dealer mentioned that you have to use iTunes with this system. I discovered this because I have a very old iPad mini player I use with my sound system on my motorcycle and figured I’d try it on the truck system. To my surprise it worked. That led me to try what I mentioned above. All those so called Tech folks at GM and the dealer service folks should know this in order to provide good customer service. Maybe I’m being to critical, but if you sell a product you should know how it works. Just my two cents!!!!
If anyone is having the same problem with there media system on their GM vehicle, I would recommend you try this method. FYI, my truck is a 2024 GMC Sierra Denali. I hope this helps anyone else who is having the same issue.
