So, I placed an order through my dealership 3 weeks ago, 2023 Silverado 2500HD LT Diesel Crew Cab Regular Bed 4×4. I was told it would be a 2023 model year but that there were 6 ahead of me waiting for allocation. Some ordered as long as 4-5 months ago. From reading other strings in the forum, I know that I’ll be waiting a long time for the truck and I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I can wait a “relatively reasonable” amount of time. That said…

Has anybody that’s been waiting on an allocation received one for the new model year yet?
With the 7/18 production start date, is GM giving allocation to anybody yet?
Are there specific option packages to stay away from to ensure an earlier allocation?
My order is for the LT trim. Would placing an additional order for an LTZ trim increase my chances of receiving allocation? Would GM or the dealerships allow this?

I asked my dealership these questions last week and got the runaround. I expect the same when I contact them tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any constructive responses that can provide some clarity.

If you are #7 in line you likely have a long wait. Depends on how large your dealer is as how many allocations he gets. Most dealers don’t even like to talk about allocation unless they are large enough to get a lot.

I traded my 2021 2500HD Custom CC LB 4×4 6.6gas on 12/22/21 for a new 2022, same model, for an even swap at MSRP.
The truck still hasn’t been picked up for production yet, due to constraints and lack of allocation. I did not know about allocation when I ordered the 21 or the 22. FYI the 21, ordered in Sept. 20, took only eight weeks to arrive in NOV. 20.
I have since then learned about allocation but even if I had shopped around then, most other dealers were adding a 5K mark up at the time so I was happy with the deal at even swap for MSRP and only cost me approx. $200.00 in fees. with tax wiped out with trade.

Three weeks ago the dealer informed my that GM will not produce any more long beds this year so if I want the long bed I need to reorder for a 2023.
On 6/10/22 I went to dealer and reviewed the build sheet and was told no constraints on the 23 model and he will get new allocation with the new model year and I am # 1 in line now but did not have pricing yet. Was told I will loose price protection with reorder but they will treat me as well as they can so I placed the order. They still have no idea how long it will take to get it but chances are with ordering before production begins on 7/18/22, I will likely have a new 23 before 23 gets here instead of having a new 22 ay the end of 2022.

I do know, as of now the (DWI) trailer mirrors with the power fold, included with the custom value package, or separate upgrade, are not available at this time and are being replaced with the (DWC) mirrors, same with out power fold. Very disappointing!
Dealer was not even aware of this and said we will have to wait and see what is available when the order gets picked up.
I don’t expect he keeps up with every constraint on every model until the order is picked up and then reviews it at that time to see if any changes.

Sounds promising however your dealer saying no constraints on 23’s means absolutely nothing. The test will be when an allocation becomes available and then the constraints are known. They change week to week. It will likely have constraints applied. If it doesn’t it will be the first one in over two years.

Until your truck actually gets allocated and then about three days more you can make changes to order. I did exactly that, allocated on a Thursday and had over the weekend to make changes until Tuesday. I added the wheel to wheel boards and the hard cover. If your dealer doesn’t allow you to do this he is just being a dick weed. For your sake I hope they do actually start production of 23’s in July but I find it extremely doubtful. GM is notorious for setting optimistic dates then missing them. I have heard sometime in August but even then, who knows. Especially with the latest news of GM having 95,000 vehicles sitting awaiting completion. Have to think they would clear these out first but who knows with them.

Perhaps I should have been a little more clear. On the day we reviewed the build, there were no constraints on the options I chose.
As I said dealer commented that we will have to see what is on constraint when order gets picked up.
He was not aware of the mirror constraint because that didn’t happen until distribution update on 6/20
