ParticipantI have the advanced trailering vision system in my 2023 GMC 2500HD with two GM auxiliary cameras (P/N 85587357) installed in my enclosed car trailer. They worked great (with certain annoying limitations) but performed as expected. Unfortunately, I was hit by a heavy piece of debris at 75mph which miraculously missed my truck entirely but impacted the front of my trailer exactly on the rear camera cable severing it completely. Following the GM installation instructions, we had installed the cable from the rear camera over the top of the trailer and down the front to the hitch area. Naturally, the rear camera stopped working immediately when the cable was cut but the inside camera was undamaged and continues to work normally. Switching the functioning camera to the port normally used for the rear camera produces a perfect image so I don’t think there is anything wrong with the truck.
I have attempted to splice the broken shielded single conductor cable using a variety of simple methods but have not been able to get that camera to work again although I can test for continuity. The cable and camera appear to use a “power over internet” protocol since there are only two electrical conductors; the outer shield and a single 18 gauge stranded copper inside wire. Cursory research has suggested that GM uses RG8 Coax cable for these auxiliary devices and “BroadR-Reach” technology and communications protocol in most of their cameras and infotainment devices including these auxiliary cameras. This is a rapidly emerging technology solution well suited to automotive applications but it may have special requirements for conductors such as the RG8 Coax cable. Thus, simple splices to not provide the shielding and correct 100 Ohm load causing data and power signals to get lost or confused during transmission along the damaged cable.
These cameras are ridiculously overpriced and very difficult to find anywhere. I have a replacement on order from GM where I bought the previous cameras but they are backordered with a new part number and with no certain delivery date. In the meantime, I’d like to get the damage cable fixed so I can be back in business. Does anybody know anything about these cables and how they can be repaired?

ParticipantHi slowboot. Mine broke off turning fifth wheel. Perhaps Vision system suppliers might have these cables. Replacement cables should be available.
GM Replacement cables please. -

ParticipantThese cables are made by a company called APTIV(so I’m told by a buddy at GM) and you need cable number E148730 or DPN:35112128. If you put the camera part number on E-bay these cables are available
