I have a 2021 Chevy Equinox AWD LT. I called the dealership and they told me that they use the Dextros 1 oil…but stated that it is the same as mobile 1? I know both are full synthetic.
The dealership said it would be $88 with tax to do the oil change.
My question is can I use any full synthetic oil if I do the oil change myself or do I have to use the mobile1? Seems hard to fine dextros 1 where I am.
Thanks.
From some research it looks like your vehicle uses 0w-20. Mobil 1 produces the highest quality oil. I recommend using a Mobil 1 oil filter as well because the oem (probably ac-delco) is made horribly. There is no difference between what Chevy would put in your car and Mobil 1… make sure you look in the manual and use the correct oil grade (0w-20, 5w-20, 5w-30, etc…)
By the way, most dealerships just use random non-name brand oil out of a 55 gallon drum… very few dealerships actually use what the manufacturer recommends because if they did, they would make no profit. Those guys are all getting paid probably 50k+ per year and a Mobil 1 filter and 5 quarts of oil is easily 50 bucks and after paying their employee, they would be making almost no money…
And remember, nascar uses mobil1 oil in their cars
Your post is full of comedy……..
Tgirl, your post isnt comedy but MLockheed has no clue. I’ve been in the GM parts business for 40 years and I’ve never seen any dealer buy a non name brand of oil and use it in place of what GM recommends. Its a very good idea to use the factory oil filter. I have seen a few cases of problems with a after market filter.
