Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some insight into an issue I’m having with my 2018 Chevy Volt. Lately, I’ve noticed a significant decrease in fuel efficiency, even though I consistently keep the battery charged. I used to get around 42 mpg, but now it’s closer to 32 mpg, which is a bummer.
This started happening about a month ago, seemingly out of the blue. I haven’t changed my driving habits or anything. Could it be a problem with the battery, or maybe something else entirely?
Any thoughts or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I think maybe it’s time to sell my vehicle after this issue? It has only 60k miles. Overall condition is ok, but has several dents and scratches after my wife:) This is a very spontaneous suggestion, but still if you are interested and live near Oakland, CA – feel free to ask me.

      Hey Andrew,
That’s a bummer about your Volt’s fuel economy! 😔 A few things popped into my head when I read your post. First off, could it be your driving style? I mean, if you’ve been flooring it more often or slamming on the brakes, that can definitely guzzle up more gas. Just a thought!
Also, how much have you been using the AC? Blasting the AC, especially on short trips, can really drain your MPGs.
And speaking of short trips, have you been doing a lot of those recently? If so, that could be another culprit. The engine doesn’t have enough time to get warmed up and running efficiently on those quick jaunts.
BTW, I’m in Fremont and looking for a first car for my son. If you’re serious about selling, maybe we could take it to the GM dealer here for a once-over? And to keep things easy, we could use a standard bill of sale like this one: https://lawrina.org/templates/bill-of-sale/car/
Just throwing it out there! Let me know what you think.
