ParticipantI bought a 2018 Chevy Silverado LTZ with a 5.3 Eco-engine with about 38,000 miles. It has now 54K miles and I am noticing strong lifter noise and via my mechanic I became aware of the issues that DFM causes on lifters.
Just recently on a highway trip the engine check light came on with a code P0325 which is knock sensor code and also there were period where the engine was struggling to generate accelerating power. We reset the check engine light and used Seafoam to see if it was bad gas, or dirty fuel injectors or valves. Things improved but lifter noise became more prominent. After resetting, noticed that check engine light came on and off reflecting that there was some misfires. No codes were found to report if misfiring occurred.
I visited the local dealer and they told me that they would do a diagnostic and could write to GM to request a “goodwill” payout to cover the repairs (dont know the % yet) because the engine is out of warranty. Few questions… for those who have had the lifters repaired, how many had to also replace the camshaft? How satisfied were you with the repair? Did they replace all lifters or just some of them. Did GM agree to pay (full or partially) for the repairs? Going forward, if its repaired would you go with a DFM tuner and disable the feature?

ParticipantVery few camshafts have been replaced however GM in their ways to save money will want to replace just the bad knowing very well that the others will have to be replaced in the future. Be relentless in your push to get GM to pay for this repair as they know its a problem. Dont know what the smog laws are for your state but a DFM tuner might violate them.
You mentioned that you used seaform so I thought this video might interest you.

ParticipantI forgot to mention that they are roller lifters so camshaft damage is rare……….
