My USB will not play mp4 files. If I convert to mp3 it works but that is a major ordeal. Is there an update that allows it to play mp4 files?

I have a 2017 Acadia Denali and we have the two infotainment systems (DVD players) in the rear of the headrests of the two front seats for the kids. One of them stopped working, so GMC replaced one of them.
I noticed the new one plays DVDs created from MP4s and the older one does not. I tried updating my system but it says my software is up to date. I have not tried music through the USB yet, but neither systems will play a movie through the USB.It is completely frustrating. I would go to GMC or at least call.
I will be visiting them very soon for the discrepancy listed above.
