I’ve owned a 2015 Encore for almost 4 years now. About 2 years ago, it started stalling randomly. It could happen while I’m driving or idling. After it stalls, it will be unable to start for anywhere from 0-10 minutes. During that time, it coughs and sputters but won’t start. Then suddenly it will start and I can drive away until it stalls again. Sometimes it starts again immediately. It has been giving a p0420 code the whole time, and it has destroyed 3 catalytic converters in this time. The last one was put in as a warranty replacement for the second one. When the second and third cats were put in the p0420 code would go away for a couple weeks, then come back. Lately I have been noticing a decrease in power and an unwillingness to shift into the high gears sometimes. Last week it stalled and did not start again and now it’s in the shop again. I have brought it to the dealer and my mechanic and no one can figure out why it destroys catalytic converters. Any help could be life-changing for me. Thanks -Stephen
Might start looking at o2 sensors
I see this is an older post. Any updates on the issue?
